Norfolk, Virginia has named October 11 - 19 "Norfolk Visual Arts Week".  The city has recognized the economic impact and the importance of visual arts in the city.  The week will kick off with the 52nd Annual Ocean View Art Show, October 11-12.  October 12 the Colonial Place and Riverview neighborhoods will have their annual Front Porch Art Walk.  Several midweek events are planned at various locations around Norfolk.  The Stockley Gardens Fall Art Show will wrap up the week.

This all came about when our Mayor, Paul Fraim, visited the Ocean View Art Show last year.  He was impressed by the caliber of the work, and about the number of artists visiting from out of state.  We talked for just a few minutes about the number of art events that take place in the city of Norfolk.  The Mayor discussed this with the city council and the Norfolk special events people, and with our Cultural Affairs team.  They came up with the idea of promoting a week of art in the city.

The list of events taking place is still growing, but can be seen on the Norfolk Public Arts website.  There are links there to some of the other events.

We are hoping some artists will take the opportunity to enter both the Ocean View Art Show and the Stockley Gardens Art Show, and spend the week in Norfolk.  Enjoy the off-season rates here, and visit all the art events taking place!
