New here....and as an artist

Hi everyone, I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I was laid off in 2008 from the Civil Engineering and Surveying field and decided last year to pursue my artwork. With the gov't fighting over the bill I've lost all income and am frustrated with that as I'm just not needed in my field and since that is where I'm trained I'm over qualified ... or under for everything out there with mostly seems to be part time nights and weekends and having 3 kids that just doesn't work. I have been building a portfolio for about 6 months and have enough works now to share my creations with the world as I work on additions. I enjoy nature and have tried to create works that others can enjoy it’s beauty along with beginning a line of cars, bikes, landscapes, portraits and still life’s. I try to update my site’s as I get work done so that others can get a feel for what types of work I could be commissioned to do as well. http://originalsbykaty.weebly.com for anyone interested in having a looksee. I have very little formal training and don’t possess an arts degree but would like others to enjoy my works as well. I work a lot with charcoal as I think the contrast it creates as a bold expression to the work. I do however enjoy acrylics for paintings to bring life to a room.

  • Katy,
Wonderful Art! And welcome to the site. We have an eclectic bunch here, and all of us enjoy the show circuit. Some have lots more experience, and some just beginning, so you'll fit right in! My name is Karole and I'm from the northeast region- Maine. Take your time trolling through the different discussions- very informative. I'm in my third year, first year full time due to layoffs. I do handcrafted,
and custom jewelry. Just coming off a 3 week vacation- my first in years! Back in the studio this week- and I missed it! If you have any questions comments or insights let us know...we are always happy to help, interact, and in general be good sounding boards! Again Welcome, and Nice work!
