I"ve spent a couple hours trying to check out an application on ZAPP. I completed the application for the Bloomington, Indiana 4th Street show but when attempting to check out, it just brings up the checkout page without the show listing on there.

I deleted the application once and re-did it, but still had the same problem. I even went to an old ZAPP account I had, and tried to submit an application through there, but it was the same deal with the application not showing up on the checkout page.

I sent a couple of emails to the contact listing but at this point, it's past midnight so there won't be a response until tomorrow at the earliest and it's too late by then in most cases. Damn, I kept getting shut out of that show for ten years, I give up for a while, and decide to try it again, and this happens :-(  Bah, humbug!

  • H'mmm....And you’re in Eastern time, too, just like the show and the midnight EST deadline? So the time difference wouldn’t trip you up. It has me once before…racing to compose some unexpected weird new statement after realizing a “midnight” deadline was for me, 11 pm.

Just this year a show I applied to as a last minute impulse shut me out at what I swear was a minute before midnight. Rushing, I make a key entry error and had to re-enter my CC number. Then hitting “submit” did nothing at all. I tried it over and over, and then it was after midnight. I decided it was “destiny” and let it go.

But that’s not the same as it being a show you know you want to do.

The other thing I can think of is whether the clock on your computer is set accurately. I know I am relying on mine, but I don’t really know how accurate it is. I assumed it’s set automatically, but looking just now, I see my phone is showing a minute later. But if you were several minutes ahead, that should not matter.

You emailed ZAPP or the show? I would CALL zapp rather than email. Explain and ask them to contact the show on your behalf. If it really is a technical glitch maybe ZAPP has an explanation, and the show will accept your late application. They are nice, reasonable people running the show.

    • I did receive an answer to my emails from last night. The person who used to handle the ZAPP administration for them passed away this last year, and they were having troubles with the learning curves with restarting the cutoff time causing more problems in a cascading effect. The next problem that cropped up after getting the application to go through was that Paypal and the CC payments were having issues with no communications, but that too was finally cleared up and everything was finally cleared up by late morning or close to noon.

I've found most shows in EST have a true cutoff of midnight MST which is two hours later, but I've gotten burned on a few that paid attention to the correct time so I tend to not cut it close to the edge any more. Yes, they are nice people to deal with. That show used to be my top grossing show, but with their rise in national ranking the competition has become extremely stiff and I've not been in the show for ten years now. Here's hoping all the effort to get in this year pays off.

      • Interesting. I did not realize that the cutoff time was actively managed on the show's end. I thought it was just a parameter they set, and an automated system on ZAPP's end did the rest.

So, did they let you submit?

Once 7 years ago, I was accepted, then had to cancel after having a repeat surgery. I had scheduled my shows assuming a certain recovery time from the first surgery. Which was fine, except… they didn’t get it all, and  a month later I had to repeat the surgery. I quickly realized through a fog of pain pills that there was no way I was going to be able to do a show in early September after having surgery in mid August. I sent in a cancellation 2 weeks before, with regrets. And was surprised when they responded with a kind message and a refund. It was the ONLY show that refunded my booth fee. Even offers of documentation fell on deaf ears with the other, later shows, which would have had ample time to fill my space. I have thought favorably of 4th Street ever since.

        • There were several people in the same boat, so they let us submit. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the jury results.
