Bayou City Art Festival (March 28-30) seems to be having a communication problem. Websites and Face Book pages all over the internet are buzzing.
I have no horse in this race (obviously) although I did live in Houston for ten years and I have had the pleasure of being threatened with a lawsuit by an "artist" whose work I questioned, thanks to the Director of BCAF a couple of years ago.
And there was last year's "art heist" held during the final hours of last year's show…

This Sunday, Monday show over Labor Day weekend has shown improvement yearly for the last 5 years.
It is run by the local art league and used to feature mostly local artists of varying abilities so it was a very uneven show. It also had a central purchasing point which killed impulse buying. Then, someone saw the light and opened it up to artists everywhere and got rid of the central cashier area.
Lake Forest is a combination of very old money and current corporate…

When you are the crown jewel of all the shows put on by one promoter, you expect to see great things.
Sadly, that was not the case at this year's Port Clinton show. The art at this show is usually good and that was the case this year, for the most part, but there was art that would not have gotten in, in past years and there was nothing that was spectacular or must have.
The crowds arrived early but I didn't notice a lot of packages being carried. There was no energy at any…

This is another Amdur show and while it used to be the 2nd best, after Port Clinton, it didn't seem nearly as good as in previous years.
When you have been to one Amdur show, you have pretty much been to all Amdur shows so I won't spend a lot of time on the show. It did have fairly solid artists, was laid out in a manner that made it easy to get around and see all the booths. There is plenty of close by parking and in addition to the usual food booths, the area itself has many…

It is always a pleasure to attend this wonderful show. There is convenient parking, indoor, a/c bathrooms, reasonably priced food and of course-- really good art.
When you live in Amdurland, the odds are that you have seen 90% of the artists at one show or another so any time you get to go to a show that will have "new" artists, it makes for a fun day. This show did not disappoint. The quality of the show is above average at almost every booth. It is one of the shows that you…
ContinueI remember the Newhart show well. I watched it often. I didn't know about the wholesale show. I googled special things to do in Chicago before I left to see what they had listed to do. Next time, I will just ask you what is going on.
There was a Michael Jackson Cirque Du Solei show there for 2 days. I really wanted to go see that but my sister wasn't feeling the best and she hated to get tickets and then not be able to go.
Have you ever gone to the One of a Kind Show in Merchandise Mart in December? Connie and I went last December. If you haven't been to that, you should check it out next December. The fiber arts sells off the racks like crazy!
Well, gotta get back to work.

Hello Geri, I was walking around at Navy Pier this weekend and I happened upon the Bob Newhart sculpture. I said to my husband, hey I have seen that before. Then, I realized that you had that for your profile photo. I had never been to Navy Pier before. My sister has constantly told me it was all junk out there and to not waste my time. However, I stumbled on the Stain Glass window display that she never saw. That was well worth the long walk and achy feet!
Just thought I would let you know I saw your coach.
