"During Art Basel?  Artists are going to stay at the Ritz Carlton?  Would anyone staying there go to this festival rather than Art Basel?  This is a wonderful park, most noticeable for the many kites that are always being flown there.…"

Houston, We have a Problem... Bayou City Art Festival does it again.

Posted on March 3, 2014 at 8:58pm 53 Comments

Bayou City Art Festival (March 28-30)  seems to be having a communication problem.  Websites and Face Book pages all over the internet are buzzing.

I have no horse in this race (obviously) although I did live in Houston for ten years and I have had the pleasure of being threatened with a lawsuit by an "artist" whose work I questioned, thanks to the Director of BCAF a couple of years ago.

And there was last year's "art heist" held during the final hours of last year's show…

Lake Forest, IL Art on the Square, 9/1-2, 2013 Better Every Year

Posted on September 6, 2013 at 12:16pm 10 Comments

This Sunday, Monday show over Labor Day weekend has shown improvement yearly for the last 5 years.

It is run by the local art league and used to feature mostly local artists of varying abilities so it was a very uneven show.  It also had a central purchasing point which killed impulse buying.  Then, someone saw the light and opened it up to artists everywhere and got rid of the central cashier area.

Lake Forest is a combination of very old money and current corporate…

Port Clinton, 2013, Just another show

Posted on September 5, 2013 at 4:34pm 3 Comments

When you are the crown jewel of all the shows put on by one promoter, you expect to see great things.

Sadly, that was not the case at this year's Port Clinton show.  The art at this show is usually good and that was the case this year, for the most part, but there was art that would not have gotten in, in past years and there was nothing that was spectacular or must have.

The crowds arrived early but I didn't notice a lot of packages being carried.  There was no energy at any…

Art at the Glen, Glenview, IL 8-10/11, 2013

Posted on August 15, 2013 at 12:55am 2 Comments

This is another Amdur show and while it used to be the 2nd best, after Port Clinton, it didn't seem nearly as good as in previous years.

When you have been to one Amdur show, you have pretty much been to all Amdur shows so I won't spend a lot of time on the show.  It did have fairly solid artists, was laid out in a manner that made it easy to get around and see all the booths.  There is plenty of close by parking and in addition to the usual food booths, the area itself has many…

Morning Glory, Milwaukee, WI, Aug 10/11, 2013

Posted on August 15, 2013 at 12:34am 6 Comments

It is always a pleasure to attend this wonderful show.  There is convenient parking, indoor, a/c bathrooms, reasonably priced food and of course-- really good art.

When you live in Amdurland, the odds are that you have seen 90% of the artists at one show or another so any time you get to go to a show that will have "new" artists, it makes for a fun day.  This show did not disappoint.  The quality of the show is above average at almost every booth.  It is one of the shows that you…

hi geri, a friend fwd to me art fair insider and as i was reading i really enjoyed your comments about the art shows. my husband and i are semi-retired and we love to travel, go art shows and decorate our home. from your blog comments about shows in chicago area or anywhere do you mind sharing this information with me. we also planned our business/vacation around art shows and want to see more places. you should show pictures of your home with the artwork you have collected. that would be so interesting. i usually look on the internet for shows while we are traveling and some of them have been a bust. full of buy and sell. so i want to start all over with a fresher view of art shows for pleasure. thank you valencia. i look forward to hearing from you.

Hello, and yes, you did meet me at the South Miami Art Festival.
I will be doing the South Rotary Festival in the near future.
I did the December christmas show in Woodstock (Sunrise, Broward County) and it was a disaster. Big winds came up and picked up me, my tables of glass, my tent, wieghts and tie downs. I lost hundreds of $$$ worth of glass and the judge would not come back later to judge me after finding me sitting in the middle of the mess!

Hi Geri,
Thanks for both your comments and for passing our site along to others. We have not shown in the Chicago area so it would be best to order on line. Every Earring and Jewelry Holder is an origiinal so it would be a great addition to your finds.

Thanks! I am just now shooting for a website, so I guess the short answer is no. I have a LOT more product than it looks like. Since I am shooting pics now, I plan on working on it tomorrow, is there anything you would like me to email you a photo of?

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment on my recent blog post, Geri. This site means a lot to me and I am so pleased you are here and listening and participating.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I should check my page every once in a while. Right now I don't have a website, but I'm working on it. Not too computer savy. I've also just signed you for an etsy account, just need to post some work. Thanks for the compliment on my work. I can tell you're a patron of the arts.
