What are the best things about art fairs

Meeting and talking with the customers and the lookers, being outside, sharing ideas, stories and information with other exhibitors.

Best show ever and why

Frankfort August Art Fair. I try to stay in my home state to keep my expenses down and this art fair is very high quaility, high attendance from summer coaster vacationers and boaters, good sales, great location and great time of year. Its mid August and am always sure of good weather. Easy set up, bring your car right to your booth. Its a one day fair on Saturday with a Friday night opening to get a head start on sales. Promotors are Chamber o fCommerce and great people to work with.

Worst show ever and why

Charlevoix Summer Art Fair. Although there were high rollers, the set up is on a steep bank which flows down to the bay. Extreme high winds all the time, expensive lodging. The second year I did the show, there was a storm on Saturday night. Half the exhibitors lost their tents which went into the bay and many, like myself, had their tents knocked down by the wind and all my displays fell down. Luckily, as my product does not damage with water, nothing was lost, however, by the time I put everything together, more thanhalf the day was gone, as well as any possible sales.

  • Hi Carol. I too am from Michigan . The upper Peninsula of Michigan actually. I was this year thinking of doing the Charlvoix art fair because most of the fairs I do in my area are small and I did figure the same thing, the money must be there. After reading your adventure now Im not sure I should or not. I don't have a lot of money to travel with either and Im trying to figure out if traveling some distance would pay off or not. I just started fairs last year and wondering where and what to do?
