First show ever

Deer Path Art League 'ART FAIR ON THE SQUARE', in the capacity of volunteer marketing. Otherwise my first art fair as an art attendee, was in Birmingham, Michigan at the park formerly called Shane Park(decades ago). I first saw Chris Roberts Antieau there and was able to buy her work many years later. (some clients like me will come back but it may take years!) I now have a room I call the "Chris" room. We have bought a fair amount of significant art while on vacation; Santa Fe, Barcelona, Venice, Aspen. Some from galleries, some from meeting the artist then going back to their studio and a few from indoor or outdoor art fairs. We will often buy to celebrate an anniversary and a special memory. Smaller items ie jewelry, leather bags, smallish wall pieces are often bought on impulse.

What are the best things about art fairs

Exposure to a variety of art mediums, in a friendly non intimidating environment. Opportunity to interact with the artist and the opportunity to perhaps find fine art or exceptionally high level craft that is not mass produced, that is produced by the artisan and that is unique in its design and availability.

Best show ever and why

I happen to love the American Craft Exposition held late August in Evanston, IL. I also like the Lake Forest Deer Path Art League's "Art Fair on the Square" (I have gone for years and as of 2010 I am a volunteer marketer) as it is a nice layout, a beautiful setting and it has a peaceful feeling. It also (for me) seems to be a nice size. It is not a zoo which is how I feel a few of the fairs strike me. I like a fair which is clean, not overly crowded (I object to getting stepped on and not begin able to see the artists work) and that has a high quality art level and appealing booths. There is also adequate parking and I know I can get in and out without problem.
