I'm trying to get my booth shot just right and have been reading the discussions here for tips.  Was hoping to get some input on what I have currently and see if anyone can offer any input.  I'm a newbie at all of this... this is actually my second try at applying for a juried art fair, and I learned from what I've read here that my first booth shot was just horrible.  Am hoping the new one will be much improved.

What you see here is my first test shot with a decent camera.  The lighting isn't right, so I will be shooting this again tomorrow when the sun is coming from the correct angle, before it angles into the front of my booth.

There are also two paintings not in the booth currently, as I am finishing those up.  They go beneath the pepper painting on the back wall and near the front of the right wall.

I would appreciate any kind & encouraging input.

Thanks!
Amelia :)

  • Just heard today that I am invited to the art festival I used this booth shot for! :)

    • Congratulations, Amelia. That is good news. Good for you!

  • 981300203?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Well, here's my booth shot as of yesterday morning.  This was a good learning experience, getting my work into my display to evaluate how everything looks together and what kinds of similarities I can see in my work.  (It's a little hard to do indoors, with the paintings in different parts of the house.)  The conclusion I've come to is that I need to keep painting and continue building up a body of work... which is something I already knew.  But, this was a good learning experience and something that would be good to revisit every few months as I continue to add to my work.

  • Amen, Geri

I am struggling with the same thing right now.  What does unified body of work mean?  I don't do anything that is similar.  My work is all over the place and I like that.

    • I'm glad I'm not the only one! :)  My husband thinks I shouldn't try to pigeonhole myself on subject matter or style too much, so I'll just keep painting and see what I come up with.  And, as I continue to paint, I am seeing some similarities in my work.  So we'll just see what happens... :)

  • Robert, please explain a unified body of work to me.  When I look at her booth shot, I see the same style of painting in all the pictures; bold colors, distinct shapes.

If a unified body of work means that everything is variations on the same theme, then no wonder the quality of work at festivals isn't changing and artists aren't challenging themselves any more.  There is no incentive.

And, no wonder I am not buying as much.

    • Here is a show's website that shows each of the images an artist sent in with the application, you can get some idea of the "cohesive theme", and the ones that break that rule and still work: http://www.artinthepearl.com/

      Click on Festival Artists.

    • I'm still out on the road, but will be able to answer this more fully either late afternoon or evening. I also wonder if this needs to be a separate post as it's a universal issue rather than specific to here?
    • Thanks for your kind thoughts on my work.  I'm still trying to figure this all out...

      Amelia :)

  • Hi Amelia

Personally, I think it looks very good!
