Most of the shows I'm able to do by myself.  I have a few shows that I think it would be wise to hire a helper.  What is the going rate these days??  A flate rate or commision.....or both.  I would appreciate any advise.

  • I have paid $12 per hour but not sure if that is similar to what others pay....think it also depends on how much is expected of the worker...

    • Thanks Annette and Pauline,I think for a show like Evanston I would agree with $12 per hour.  It is a busy show so I feel that a extra person would be helpful.  A quieter show I would probably pay a flat fee of $75 a day - if that show was successful, I would give them a little exra.  Freinds of the family have offered to help me at the show.  They were offering to do it as a favor, but it didn't seem like a firm committment.  It would be like a stop by the show kind of a thing.  I mentioned I would pay them something and now they seem to be more committed.  I want to be fair so I needed to find out what other people pay.   I sell jewelry and I know that I need someone to keep an eye on things when I busy.  I heard about the problems the jewelers are having at the shows in the city.   Does anyone else have advise on what to pay people.

  • Anita - I pay in kind with my work.  I also tend to go for a pro rata system, so if the show is successful the helper gets more than for a very quiet show. Could that work for you?

  • Hi Connie,

I'm doing Evanston next weekend and a friend of the family has offered to help out.  I know it would be more of a committment than a favor if I paid her.  I want to be fair, but don't want to over pay.  If anyone can give me advise, I would appreciate it.

  • Usually a flat rate for the day, or the entire show, or a per hour rate. I've heard great stories about helpers who were so useful. Craigslist has gotten people some good helpers. If you're doing a show in a university area I've heard the best responses. How much? Someone else will have to help on that.
