Not quite as many shows going on this weekend because of the holiday. And why is that? Because the shows that are run by volunteers don't want to volunteer away their own holidays. Makes perfect sense to me.

However, the big block buster this weekend is in Denver, the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. Hope my friends there have a great show. One of the things I always liked about this show is standing outside in the evening after the show had closed with friends and watching the fireworks over the Rockies. You all know this business is not just about money, there is also the lure of the lifestyle.

What else? In Chicagoland there is the Buffalo Grove Art Festival. More info: http://buffalogrove.patch.com/groups/around-town/p/buffalo-grove-art-festival-returns-july-1314

Head downtown to Michigan Avenue for an exciting event sponsored by the Chicago Tribune: http://wgnradio.com/2013/07/02/22nd-annual-chicago-tribune-north-michigan-avenue-art-festival/

The Lake Michigan shore in Michigan brings in the rejuvenated art show (the new director used to work for ArtPrize in Grand Rapids), which we hope will make that a big draw: http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2013/07/grand_haven_art_festival_draws.html

Wickford, RI, presents its 49th Annual festival: http://northkingstown.patch.com/groups/arts-and-entertainment/p/49th-annual-wickford-art-festival-will-host-200-artisb4f17edbd1

Isn't there an event at Pikes Peak also?

Let me know what is happening with you and let your friends know to so we can meet up.

  • Here's a little more info about Evanston's Fountain Square show, including a comment from AFI member Jan Raven: http://dailynorthwestern.com/2013/07/08/city/fountain-sqaure-art-fe...

  • The "new" (rather improved and revised) Lakeshore Art Festival in Muskegon, MI, has some good press. Hope it was as good as it sounds here: http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2013/07/muskegon_art_f...

and here with the prizewinners listed:

Not crazy about some of them, but do know there was some solid original work in the bunch.

30th Annual Sugar Creek Arts Festival in Normal, IL, had some of our members exhibiting. Here is some background info on that: http://www.pantagraph.com/entertainment/go/something-the-sugar-cree...

A good article about Denver's Cherry Creek Art Festival from the DenverPost.com: Cherry Creek Arts Festival shows glimpse of the future
one of the activities was artists who were predicting what kind of art you'll find in 2018 and there is a short video for everyone who is curious about this event.

    • I declined the Lakeshore Art Festival in Muskegon to be an hour north at the West Shore Art Fair in Ludington...

      • So, Scott, tell us about Ludington. It got some pretty bad reviews last year and I heard they reworked the show. Share?

        • Yes, they reworked the show... making it a fine art fair again and eliminating a lot of crafts. I will do a review...

  • I believe Buffalo Grove is next weekend...

    • I believe you are correct, Elissa. This weekend was the Botanical Gardens show in Chicago -- my error.

  • I did not attend an art fair. But I did download lots of photos from the show in Toledo the previous week, edited them, uploaded them, resized them, wrote a blog post and then pushed the wrong button and the post about Crosby Gardens disappeared.  Did it again today, saving every few minutes. It is live now. Sheesh!

  • Delivering framed pieces to Staunton and Roanoke.  And resting.  Not being able to do Arlington has left me with a fully stocked and ready van for next weekend at Blowing Rock.

  • We're starting a week long vacation on Isle of Palms in Charleston, SC. I'll get in some photography away from the family, and hopefully get something salable out of it. No shows on the docket until mid-August so plan to spend that time doing a new body of work and try some new directions.
