St Louis Art Fair website has been down for days

And the fair is going on right now....

I am a bit incredulous that a top rated art fair would allow their email and website to go down for days. According to a posting, it has been down since September 5th.

Oh well...

It's normally a good show to visit, and I think sales for artists are respectable. We will probably go on Sunday.

    I just had another thought... what if not only their website is down but their email is also down and they can't communicate! We all have become so reliant on this connectivity that that would mean a major revamping of communications lines in the midst of their big event.

      Looks like you all have called it. This was posted on FB:

      Hello everyone, we're a small non-profit, we host internally. Because our server has crashed, we have had to completely rebuild from the ground up the week of the fair - this includes our website, our databases, and our email system. We apologize for the inconvenience and welcome phone calls with questions! Thanks for your patience!

       

      We should all take heed and use online services (the cloud, as it has been called) for backups wherever possible. I don't do anything too fancy or high-tech, but I have a few critical files that I try to keep updated in my Gmail Drafts folder. Plus my usual backup on CD every once in a while. All hard drives will fail, it is simply a question of when....

    The roof of their building was damaged during one of the recent storms and apparently that knocked out a lot of the building's communication systems.  

    Mother Nature is making her presence felt nationwide.

      Which is unfortunate but irrelevant unless they were hosting their own web site. That also means the web site and backup might have been in the same location.

    I know, I know, Don. I keep tying to link to it on my Facebook pages and in the newsletters. Cindy must be pulling her hair out. At least I know I would, but then I'm addicted to the Internet ;)

     

    Love to have a report (and maybe some photos) on the show from your point of view.

      I understand that 'things happen', but I remember when my wife's website went down shortly before a major show. Took several calls, but the problem was resolved in a day. Maybe there's a financial dispute or something between the show and the webhost.

       

      I was able to find this year's artist list, it looks like a lot of the same artists as last year, from what I remember. Hopefully they'll all have new work. I saw that Amy Flynn and Fobots will be there, I don't think the fake 'fobots' will be across town this year. I'll try to get some pics of the show on Sunday!
