Good evening to all,

I am new to this community and I have already gone through quite a bit of fabulous information available. I do not have experience with US shows, so any advise/thought/insight would be greatly appreciated.

The amount of shows out there is overwhelming and I am trying to narrow them down by regions populated with horse lovers. But I am not sure this is the most relevant, so I am waiting for your ideas.

Thanks so much,

Manuela

  • In addition to what I previously posted about compelling images, I worked on a set of images for a painter this morning who specializes in horses. She never does a show in a "horse" area but prefers to do only the best shows in the country.

  • Follow the money. Wealthy people have horses for recreation and investment. Pick the equine events that match the breeds you photograph. Sounds like it is more refined than the western side of the business. My shows are not equine related but I always end up selling equine gear (western and English tack) and end up talking to people about studio special order work and saddle work. Another thought, don't overlook the opportunity to do photo shoots of show client's horses. Horse people like to have fine pictures of their horses. It could fill in time between shows with distant travel.
    • Richard,

Yes of course, I am available for private commissions and would love to photograph people's show horses. It is a matter of finding them and connecting with them...I am a bit of a nomad and if I could, I would simply take off for a few month :)

    • Richard, do you mean focusing on equine events that also have an art fair? I thought about that too. Which shows would you recommend? Thank you. M

      • Yes,but I am in Colorado and really don't do strictly horse events any more. The big shows will be listed on line or in breed publications, I.e. warmbloods, Arabian, quarter horse etc. I know a woman saddlemaker who needed $80K for down payment on her dream property. She hooked up her tack trailer and did horse events from Colorado to the east coast and met her goal within a year. She is now an iron woman competitive athlete and great person - wow. Friend me and I will give you her name to contact. A great resource. FYI I get a show announcements from Saudi Arabia and Dubai where booth space is sold by the square meter- EXPEN$IVE in the thousands for 10x10. Might make for an interesting vacation sometime. LOL
        • Thanks so much, I look forward to hearing about your lady friend you are mentioning...so inspiring! :)

  • Manuela... The Middle Georgia area around Morgan County and the Lake Oconee area are home to many horse owners, breeders, and trainers. The inaugural Cotton South Fine Arts Festival is planned for late September in Madison, which is the hub for most of that community. Check out our Zapps page for all the details.

    • Tim, thank you for this valuable information. People here are so nice! I could not know about these things otherwise. I will surely check out your art festival. Sounds very good! Please feel free to share any other details about it. Be well, Manuela

      • Nice FB page...just became a fan of it (I am 'Graceful Horses'). I checked my calendar and I am booked on Sept 28th...too bad...please let me know if you organize anything else interesting. Be well, M

  • Ocala, Florida and Leesburg, Virginia come to mind.  Most likely Kentucky but I've not done any shows there.
