I am trying to find a source for shipping boxes, for matted prints, 16x20x2, they can be a little bigger. Uline had the perfect boxes, but the shipping was insane. does anyone have any ideas?

I have to buy boxes by the pallet and I have tried a number of different packing companies in the Dallas area. Uline has the best selection and the best customer service, but not always the best prices. If you buy from them on a regular basis you might try to negotiate a lower price, and this of course applies to the other shipping companies. Most packing companies cater more to moving than to shipping frames so they have few frame style boxes. These tend to be variable size and more expensive but you have to look at the shipping. If you have free shipping for the more expensive box it may be worth while. Also, make sure you look at the per box cost after volume discounts and shipping. Typically the shipping cost for 20 boxes may only be a little more than the cost of 10 boxes.
I have an Xpedx here (like uline) They used to have want I need, but no longer carry it. I figured it out though.

Hi Stephanie,
You probably have a packing supply in SLC. I used to go to Uline when I drove past but found that my local packing supply co. often met or beat the prices. Know Uline's price and go in with that info, also, find the most sympathetic sales person there... they are able to quote different prices to different companies. If my favorite sales person is not available at my supply co. the price goes way up.

The perfect boxes I found, size and whatnot, just to ship the boxes to me, was $117.00.
I do charge the customer for shipping costs, but I didn't want to pay more in shipping on just the boxes than the actual boxes costs.
The local store I normally go for boxes has reduced their stock and the size i need is no longer there. I have had to frankenstein 2 boxes.
What's the rest of the story?
