Securing lights onto Trimline tent

In two weeks I'm using my 10x10 Trimline tent in an indoor show (without the canvas roof, of course!).  Based on some of the earlier threads, I'll be looking for LED lights at a color temp of about 3500 K.

I'll be attaching them onto the top front "rail" of the tent.  Questions I have:
* Can track lighting be secured onto the the rail, and if so, how?

* If not, I'll buy individual lights...will they clamp securely onto the rail?

Thanks for any suggestions from someone who has already worked through this!

  • I always used 1/2" and 3/4" electric conduit sliding inside each other for a flexible sized crossbar. Then I connected my track lights to a 1x2 which I cable tied to the cross bar. That way I could hang my lights at any angle within my Craft Hut.

As you've read, a little ingenuity goes a long way.

  • Hi, when I have attached my tracklight to the front rail, I usually use bungie cord to attach it, a small black one the size of the ones used on my awnings. For me its easy to put on and take off. I plan to move the track to the middle so the back wall gets more light. I hope this helps.

  • Geoff, if you do not mind the holes in your tent rails, we secure ours with #8  x 3/4 machine screws with Torx heads. Just predrill a hole in your track 6" from each end and in the middle, then use a felt tip marker to mark the location of that hole on your rail. Drill those holes the size recommended for #8 machine screws, (it's generally on the box) and you are good to go. Using Torx heads will make it much easier to drive the screws into the track since you have very little working room.

Plan B can be black duct tape, which also works fine.

    • Thanks, Linda and Jim!  Duct tape has previously been my plan A...it was time for a re-assessment! ;-)
