Raffeling off a free portrait session.

Hi Everyone,

Happy almost Thanksgiving. I'm taking some time away from preparing my goodies for tomorrow and thought I would ask this question.

At an upcoming Christmas Art and Craft show, I'm thinking of offering a raffle for a free family portrait session.

Has anyone done this and if so, do you sell tickets for a chance to win, or just have people fill out the little tickets? I've seen other vendors at this venue offer a chance to win something, but not sure if it was free or for a small charge.

    Charging is the kiss of death because people think you're taking advantage of them. Don't call it a raffle if it means registering with your state. Just say sign up for a chance to win a free portrait.

    You might want to check with CA regarding raffles. Colorado requires a state license to run a raffle. I learned this by participating in two by non- profits.

    Whatever you do, make sure to get a valid e-mail address from each person who participates. You can do that by telling them the winner will be notified by e-mail.

      Thanks for your response Larry. I just wondered if charging something per ticket was a good way to go or just get the info on the tickets.
