Purchasing mats for my art..

I  am triying to find good reasonable ready made mats for my artwork. At this point especially prints of my originals, but maybe for originals too.   (so far , I tend to get involved in choosing custom double mats for all my originals at the framer who frames and closes my work. It is pricey, but I am adding that into the price of the piece.)

Can anyone suggest  good ready made mats for prints and possible a less expensive route for me to go with matting my originals?  At this point I just can't handle cutting my own mats.. Most, but not all of my pieces are standard sizes.

thanks so much,

Mary Lou

  • Is there a good source for wholesale priced matboard by the box (32x40?), Crescent preferred, or like quality? Good prices with shipping? Minimum quantity? Also, a good source of wholesale frames cut to size with shipping? Maybe Larry knows. Years ago, we used to use Dixie Matting for precut mats, but we’ve been cutting our own, and would like to find the best prices possible. Thank you for your reply.
    • If you are cutting your own, like I do, you can buy 32" x 40" sheets from NB (Nielsen Bainbridge) or Crescent. 25 sheets per box. If your purchasing quantity is insufficient, they will set you up with a distributor. They deliver directly to me. The have their own drivers and trucks. nice museum grade products. Not the least expensive but nice quality and consistency. you can also check Peterboro.

There are cross references between NB and Crescent to find substitutes.

  • Hi I use shopatgoldenstateart  on ebay. They have great prices and good quality with fast shipping

    • Thanks Grant, I will certainly check out your ebay link.  I appreciate your replying,

  • Frame Destination is an advertiser here. Look for the link on the right side of the page. Also, for years I've used Dixie Matting to cut my mats. But you also need to state whether or not everything is the same size because singles will be a lot more expensive (if they even will provide them) than buying in bulk. With any of the suppliers I've mentioned it doesn't have to be a standard size because when cutting in quantities, all sizes are standard.

    • Thank you for the reply Larry , especially about the non-standard size info. and buying in quantity.

that makes a lot of sense. I am familiar with Frame Destination , but have only purchased their Gallery pouches, no mats.

      Thanks,

      Mary Lou
