Plastic boxes for jewelry supplies, need source.

I have checked all my usual jewelry suppliers, The Container Store, Walmart, and craft stores like JoAnn, Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. I am looking for a flat box where all or most of the dividers are removable to create compartments of various sizes.

The ones I find are mostly for beads and will have fixed horizontal sections that are too narrow. I’m storing bags of chains and need larger sections, like 4” x 4”, so I can segregate 16”, 18”, 20”, etc.  I had the perfect one but dropped it and one whole side broke. I have been carting it around taped up for a year! Thanks!

  • I got some in the fishing section of Wal-Mart.

  • Another place to check... Local hardware stores... I got three great storage boxes with removable dividers, that I use for my larger components...pendants, etc... I shop there all the time for storage ideas for my supplies. Any place that carries sporting goods is also a good idea... fishermen, and mechanics use the same types of storage we use!

  • Not sure what they have - but you might also check Harbor Freight.   Love that place.

  • Google a company named Akro-Mils. They make storage containers of all sizes and shapes. I used their products when I worked in an electronics lab to store electronics parts. Their website is fairly easy to navigate, and you can also find their products through Jensen Tools, which is a tool and equipment vendor that sells on-line and through catalogs. Jensen carries one for $32 that looks like what you're looking for.

The box is roughly 18x13x3 5/8 so it's a good size box. A smaller version is available.

Here's the link to the Jensen web page, and these are available on Amazon.

  • Definitely check bass pro.  the larger tackle boxes may have horizontal sections further apart that you can use.  I keep all my necklaces, earrings and flexible bracelets in them.  (I have five of various sizes) and they work really well.

    • I have 3 of the big Bass Pro cases with the 4 pull out boxes on the front, two on top, and several more inside the top. i love them! I store all my beads in them.
    • Tackle boxes! Wow! I will check those out. Thanks!

      • Tackle boxes work great, we have several, including some smaller ones that we use for transporting jewelry to and from shows.  And, by buying several of the same brand, we've found the dividers to be transferrable between boxes when we need larger and smaller sections.

  • Hi, Linnea. Have you tried Ikea, Bass Pro, Dick's, Sportsman's Warehouse, etc.? I am a storage container junkie ;-). Ikea used to carry some with 3 large sections that i use for bags of rather large necklaces.
    • I never even thought of these places! I didn't even know IKEA carries plastic boxes. For all the times I've been there, I should have noticed.
