Packaging for Sales

Hi Everyone

This year I will display at least 80% of my photographic work on canvas. I have been trying to find packaging material for customers other tan plastic bags. Some prints are as large as 20x30. as long as 16x36 or as small 8x12 or 8x10.

I've looked through the ULINE catalog and cant find anything i won't have to buy less than 200 of any size.

Any suggestions/ I don't want anyone coming back with a ruined print because of my packing.

Thanks

greg spring

  • My company sells GalleryPouch bags designed to protect gallery wraps and frames. They are designed to be used over and over again from show to show as opposed to one time use bubble bags for shipping so the price point may be a little high.

  • Thanks all. Sorry for the delay getting back. I'm going to take a look at Volkboxes first as I always try to buy local if possible.

  • Have you tried Volk Packaging?  I see your located in Maine - Volk Packaging is also located in Maine (Biddeford) and will deliver locally free of charge for any orders over $100.00.  They make tons of different size boxes and have other packaging materials as well.  The website is www.volkboxes.com  I've been using them for years and have never had any problems with them.  I'm not exactly sure what your requirements are but take a look at their website - it may be worthwhile.

    • Don't discount having boxes made for you. I found a box manufacturer about three miles from my house a few years ago and had 100 boxes made the same size as 25 sheet mat board boxes. I think I paid between $3 and $4 a box.

  • You can make your own bags out of aluminum insulation and aluminum tape (both available at Lowe's, in the insulation department--where else? ;-)  ). My 20x24 bags cost me about $6 each plus about 15 minutes of labor.  I use them to pack for shows.  Then, if the customer requests it, or if I'm shipping, I can include the bags.  .
  • I agree that thse boxes work real well, but gee, if you sell 10-20 images a month, where are you going to get 10-20 matboard boxes, especially if you are doing work on canvas, then you are not using a lot of matboard.
  • 25 sheet mat board boxes are the best. For smaller than 30x40, cut them down. But the 25 sheet box fits 30x40 perfectly.
