Hi - my husband and I sell travel bags and accessories - Duffels, totes, briefcases, purses, toiletry bags, etc.  We specialize in repurposing authentic military surplus fabric.  We combine some vintage materials with new materials (solid brass hardware, new leather, canvas, waxed twill).  We have been selling on Etsy for quite some time.  Only experience selling in person is low budget craft fairs (most were not so good).  The most surprising success in the last year was a weekly Saturday urban market in an up and coming neighborhood. (think Farmers Market plus more)!

We've been accepted to Fort Worth Main St. Arts Festival for our first art show! Very exciting to know its a top show (we are in the Emerging Artist category) and in our backyard.

We are struggling to figure out a booth setup.  Because everything is 3D textiles, we want the customer to touch and feel without feeling as though they are "messing up" a perfectly place display.  Also, from research, we know they frown on using tables a lot.

We are renting KD ProPanels in grey and my husband is an electrician by trade so we have lighting covered!  I would like to see the duffel bags and briefcases hanging or on a shelf like 3D art, but able to be taken down easily so the customer can upzip the bag, look inside, etc.

My best solution so far is possible the Harmon Hooks/Prohangers used to mount acrylic shelves.  We have a place called Modern Display that sells this sorf of stuff.  I plan on using art labels for descriptions and pricing - mounted to matboard with velco on the back.  We want the feel to be more like a museum.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  I've attached some photos of our work and our website to see what kind of products we need to display.

Thanks

Stephanie (and Daniel!)

  • I LOVE your bags!

  • Hi Stephanie and welcome to AFI.  Lovely products, I especially like the tote bag with the printed navy address!  I can see your product would do well in an upscale urban market :)   Congrats on getting into a "name" show!  Do a search for "booth display" in the site - blogs, forum and images and I'm sure you'll see some fantastic ideas for shelving/hangers for your items.
