I wanted to mention a new show coming to the Denver Area. This is also a new format (at least for me) in that everything for sale must be priced below $100.

WAIT.... DON'T STOP READING YET!  I know many artist will be thinking that this type of format is not for them but you need to go to this link to and listen to the Audio that explains what this show is and what it isn't:

This show is patterned after an extremely successful show in Milwaukee. Many of the artists that exhibit there also exhibit in the higher end shows (including Cherry Creek).  It will be run by Jim Delutes. Many of you may already be familiar with him. He puts on the Downtown Denver Arts Festival and did art shows for many years before he (went to the dark side) to become a promoter. It's great to have a promoter who knows this business from our side. He really knows how to organize, advertise and promote while keeping the artists happy.

I know quite a few really great artists that will be doing this show. It's a great opportunity for artists to recoup some of the money we've spent on our work that for one reason or another, doesn't fit with our current work. For instance, I have framed pieces where the frames or mats (or both) have been discontinued. I like my booth to look cohesive in the major art shows I do around the country which means these perfectly good works of art are just gathering dust in my studio. My style has changed over the years as well and I'll be able to display and sell those pieces. I've been making a living as an artist for over 23 years and that means I will have a lot of inventory that I wouldn't be able to take anywhere else.

It's also a perfect time to educate and sell to a sector of the public that may not be familiar with or can't normally afford some of my work. It's a chance to turn new buyers into collectors. Once they purchase one piece from me, the chances are better for them to buy another of my more current (and more expensive) pieces at full retail in the future. I see it as a win-win for both me and the public.

I understand this format may not work for every artist, but it will definitely work for some of us, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Here's the link again that explains more about the show.

I hope to see some of you there!

  • I've always heard good things about the Mt. Mary show and I wish Jim success. To bad there isn't a similar format show where I live.
