Hello, everyone.

I am a jewelry artist and am in the process of improving some areas of my business, including the description of my designs (for application/Jury purposes), photographs and booth layout. Today I am focusing on the description of my designs and would love your feedback! An art show that I am getting ready to apply to requires a cover letter "describing my art or craft in detail (i.e. media category, material used, etc.)." The event is a high end show, but not necessarily considered a "fine art only" type of event. So...attached is my first draft of the cover letter. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! If it helps, a link to my portfolio is accessible below.

Thank you in advance,

Tara Hicks

  • Yep, that was me! :) I loved the Monument Circle event. I'm hoping to get in, again, this year. As for the Metamora show - yeah...live and learn, I guess! It was a complete joke. Never, again! ;( 200 characters or less...got that one covered, too. It basically says the same thing, but without the extra fluff and no bulleted lists. :) The show I'm hoping to get in to this year (Chautauqua Festival of Arts) said to create a "cover page". I've never heared that term used before outside of applying for jobs, so I'm assuming they wanted a little more in the description that would require more than 200 characters. :) Thank you so much for reviewing what I wrote and providing your feedback. I really do appreciate it! Maybe our paths will cross, again, at the 2016 shows. :)
  • The cover letter reads well. I like it, wouldn't change anything. The next challenge is to condense that down into 100 and a 200 character materials/technique statement for the ZAPP applications :-)

BTW, I looked at your profile photo and thought, "She looks like someone I've seen". Yep, you did the Monument Circle show this past fall here in Indy. I was booth 05 there. Sorry to see you did the Metamora show. That was maybe my first or second show, and it was a scam back in 1988 so some things just don't change.

  • Sorry about the unreadable format. I attached a PDF version this time. :)

  • The cover letter is not able to be opened. Make it either a pdf or Word document so it can easily be opened.

    • Thank you, Robert. :) I attached a PDF version in my last comment. :)
