Large Photos to Hang in Booth

I was wondering where everyone goes to get their jury photos blown up to hang in their booths? I'd like specific companies, if possible. I wasn't happy w/the customer service I received when I had my banner done, so I'd like to hear some other recommendations.
Thanks!

  • Larry, any suggestions as to the color space, or setup, needed for Costco? I've had a couple posters printed there and they were great. Another picture that I had done at 16 x 20 looked a little dull, colorwise. It was set to RGB color space, but when I compared it to an 11 x 14 that I'd printed, it was as bright. The main noticeable difference was in the blues in the water. I was hoping to use them for a cheap source for poster sized prints, and just selling them pretty much like you described (bag and foamboard). The hanger would be a neat addition.
  • Mark is sending me the kit to experiment with and I'll have my suggestions up by early next week. The foam board will come inside a 20x30 archival clear bag from http://ClearBags.com and the two sets of hangers will be included depending on how you want to hang it. All you have to do is slip the print into the bag and the hangers will attach to the back with their adhesive. I'm getting a 20x30 print made so I can take pictures and test the system out. I'll be taking pictures showing the simplicity of my concept. It will be designed to be relatively foolproof, or artist proof.

  • That's what I'm working on with Frame Destination. At my suggestion Mark will be offering a 20x30 clear archival self sealing bag with a sheet of 20x30 foam core and a hanging kit containing two different types of hangers, adhesive backed Velcro for hanging on Pro Panels and an adhesive backed hanger with grommets that you can run a wire through. Another advantage is that it will be shipped in a box that you can use to store the prints between shows. The only problem you might have is if you pick up the prints before ordering the hanging setup you'll have nothing to store the prints in when picking them up that will prevent them from being damaged in handling.

When I pick up any size prints, I always bring a box large enough to transport them.

  • Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone! I'll check out that website, Pat. I may start out w/the inkjet print that Larry suggested since it's so much cheaper. It'll be a good way for me to play w/which images will work best in my booth before I commit to something more expensive. I never would have thought of using contact paper. Where do you buy the grommets & Plasticor, Amy?
  • MPIX.com is a great site for everything from photo business cards to large prints. Very reasonable and very fast. Order today and they ship tomorrow.
  • They are photographic ink jet prints. I have a local custom lab that prints on vinyl but they cost between $35 and $50 depending on the size and it takes about a week. The advantage of a large $9 print is that it's under 24 hours and at that price become a throw away if they get damaged. I'm in Pittsburgh and I prepared eight prints for an artist in Washington. They were able to pick the prints up the same day at their local Costco because of the time difference.

  • Are the prints on canvas or vinyl to be hung? I'm looking for something durable w/grommets. Or do you mean that these are actual photographic prints?
  • I'm working on an inexpensive solution for this right now. Actually the inexpensive solution is you can get 20x30 prints from Sam's Club or Costco for only $9. I've worked with a number of artists preparing their images and uploading to Costco and have them be able to pick them up locally, even if they're not members. The rest of the story is that I'm working with Mark Rogers of Frame Destination to create an inexpensive solution to protect and display the prints in your booth.
