Any opinions on these shots? First time to try and jury in to jewelry with my wood art. Mostly have done boxes in the past. Would like to jury in to both categories. Does it hurt or help to show a few against a white cup just to give a little context. Note that most of these have not been cropped square to the zapplication 1920 pixel standard yet. Thanks for comments.

  • I agree with Larry about the background. White works well for images that will be used in a catalog or an online shop like Etsy, but will blind the jury members. The standard is a light to dark gray gradation background.

  • Cropping to make it square doesn't make the image a better jury image. Only square artwork should be represented with square jury images. Otherwise all you are doing is taking up space that the jurors see that doesn't contain your art. Crop so that the image is best represented and add black borders to square. The jurors do not see the black borders because they see the images on a black page background.

Never use white as a background for jury images because it blinds the jurors - because they either see the work projected in a dark room or on a black page background on a monitor. The background should be neutral and not introduce color or have texture.

Look at some of the examples on my web site to see what I'm talking about:
