IPhone Credit Card Apps

I know we've got numerous Credit Card Machine discussions going - but I've not seen anything on using IPhone Credit Card apps. Has anyone used any of these?  There are a number of ones to choose from and we're doing some online research - but thought I would check with the forum here to see if there is any advise.

We've just started doing shows this past year and are still fitting them into our weekends when we have availability from our "paying the bills jobs". As we start doing more shows we will more than likely move to a true swipe machine with a lease or own option but for now I thought one of these apps might be a great stop gap option.

Any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated! This forum has provided a wealth of information for a long time artist just starting out in the art fair realm.

Thanks!

Karla

  • I just had the opportunity to use the "Mophie" swiper for the I phone yesterday.  It worked great and my customers appreciated the technology. I did quickly write a regular receipt to hand them as well as emailing the recepit from the Iphone. Additional benefit is you have their email addrsses for your database!
    • Thanks for the info Martha!  I just signed up for this today.  Looks like the data will be downloaded to QuickBooks?  Haven't gotten that far yet, but it's nice to have a card reader (swiper) so I don't have to key in the CC numbers.  I applied over the phone today and was approved by the end of the business day!  Very good service.
  • I have been using Intuit Merchant services for about a year now. I switched from Propay after they gave me a really hard time with a $1100 sale- it was over my "average".

So anyway, I have an Iphone 4 and just got a device called a mophie which plugs into my phone and is a swiper. No more key entered transaction- that saves money. And a receipt gets emailed to the client right away! I can't wait to start using it and will let you know how it works out. So far I have only done a couple of test transactions. They also make a swiper for the Iphone 3 which we got for my husbands phone.

  • I use PAYWare Mobile (http://www.paywaremobile.com/en) in conjunction with my ProPay account.  PayWare has a sleeve that slides onto my iPhone 3G and I just swipe the credit card.  Efficient and the technology impresses my customers.  It paid for itself at the first show where I started using it.  I highly recommend it.
    • Since many of these new swipers do not print out proper receipts... I was wondering if that has been a problem with your customers???
      • Hi Esther ...

Not really.  Last year I offered a manual recipt along with the one sent to their email.  Took a little longer, but it worked great!

This year, I've a battery powered network printer that I can print the recipt off of.

        • Thank you Jeffery. I have decided to go with Intuit and am purchasing their bluetoooth swiper to work with my Samsung Captivate. This will be my third merchant provider (in 8 years).

          • Esther, how is the Bluetooth swiper from Intuit working for you? I attend festivals introducing exhibitors to Intuit's GoPayment mobile system. There's a complete line of mobile products available for practically every type and style of smartphone. No contract, no set up or cancellation fees and your choice of monthly plans, either $0 per month or $12.95 depending on your sales and needs. Plus you're dealing with Intuit, a well respected company that specializes in small business solutions. Check out www.gopayment.com for details.
            • Hi Dann,

Sorry it took so long to reply. I did sign up with Intuit. I had to buy the bluetooth swiper since the free swiper is not been tested w/my phone. I haven't used it yet but I wanted to drop my old merchant account because they slipped in a PCI fee into last Oct.'s billing and again last month (they swear they told me about it).

So far what I can say is that the customer service is very dependent on who you luck out getting on the phone.

I'll let you know how it works out. I don't have a show till late April.

          • Here is simple system that I've heard about - the reader is FREE.

"Square is a revolutionary service that enables anyone to accept credit cards anywhere. Square offers an easy to use, free credit card reader that plugs into a phone or iPad. It's simple to sign up. There is no extra equipment, complicated contracts, monthly fees or merchant account required."
