Introduction

Hello Everyone,

Just thought I would introduce myself here. I have been an artist for about 15 years now, but just became full-time this past August. My paintings are acrylic on watercolour paper and focus primarily on rural scenes. I have done outdoor shows here in Canada (Toronto area) but now that I have time to travel and do shows I will be doing some in the US. I have been accepted for the following 2012 shows:

Melbourne Art Festival - April 28 -29

Gold Coast Art Fair - June 30 - July 1

Ann Arbor Street Art Fair - July 18 - 21

Art at the Glen Tower - August 11 - 12

Port Clinton Art Festival - August 25 - 26

If you have any specific hits or tips, please let me know, I would love to hear from people regarding known differences or thoughts on shows in Canada and the US. And if anyone would like information on shows up here, please let me know and I'll do my best to help where I can.

I have other applications out, both in the US and Canada... yup, I applied to a lot of shows this year.

Hmmmm... what else... Web site: www.JeremyBrowneStudios.com and email is JeremyBrowneArt@gmail.com

Look forward to talking with some of you here, and hopefully meeting some at the upcoming shows this summer!

Warmest Regards,

Jeremy Browne

  • Nice schedule, Jeremy, and the right attitude too! Lots to learn and you will get to see a lot of the US, definitely one of the perks of this business. I know we have other Canadian members here. A blog post about how you get your work across the border and back would be very helpful to them as I regularly get questions about that topic.

    • I will post some information on this process once I get back, still want to see how the actual crossing goes on both sides. Doing the paper work was easy enough and I found a broker that seems to be very good and helpful so I will post their contact information also.

  • Hello all,

Yup, driving from Toronto down to Melbourne for just that single show. I lost my job last September or thereabouts and by the time I got around to figuring out what to do with myself I had missed most of the app. deadlines for Jan - March. I made a decision to becoem a full time artist and knew that gallery represention for me wasn't going to be enough, nor would just doing shows here in Canada. I had no idea at the time about this site, so I basically grabbed a copy of the Sunshine Artist Magazine I had that showed the Top 100 shows and I just started applying to anything close to me and then found something that would work in March... hence my drive to Florida in 2 weeks ;)

I try and search and read about the shows I have been accepted into, and so far I have found info on all, some positive, some negative. For me, I am sort of treating this year as a learning the shows experience. I have been doing shows here for 7 years or so, but not in the US (other than some Gallery shows). Since the above, I was also accepted into:

    Rittenhouse Square, PA

    East Lansing, MI

    Allentown, NY

    Art & Apples, MI

Again, had no information, but I am excited about these shows, and hopefully things will go well. Once I have done the shows and had a chance to see things first hand I'll go about making plans for next year! I look forward to meeting you Connie at AA.

    All the best,
    Jeremy

Ps. It's much warmer in Florida than Ontario... kinda like a work-vacation!

  • Beautiful work, Jeremy.

Are you really going all the way to Florida for one show? Good luck!

Have you been doing shows in the US? I do believe you have been lurking here for awhile. Right? So you've put together a very solid schedule of shows. Did you read all the stuff on this site about Gold Coast? It is a big, unruly exciting event, with a new date, a location that is still being ironed out exactly -- but not to say not to do it by a long shot. Just that it will be an adventure in the heart of a great city.

I'm impressed that you'll also be at the AA Street Art Fair -- definitely a fine show where you'll be surrounded by many of the pros of this business who have been at this for a long time. I usually attend this show, so I'll definitely put you on my list of people to meet.

This looks like an adventurous summer for you -- I hope you find a good audience for your very fine paintings.

  • Hi Jeremy and Welcome!

We have a great many discussion forums here, a few specific to shows! A few bloggers, that post show reviews in the blog section also.  If you click on the members map, it will show the locations of participating members- there are a few from "up North" as we say here in Maine! There are some discussions , too, that you should read about travelling across the borders and other specific issues that you may have an interest in. Using the search bar at the very top  right of the page will help! Good luck with your show schedule!

  • Hi Jeremy and welcome to AFI!   We have another Canadian member that occasionally dips into the US - they may be able to give you a heads up on the differences in shows.
