How-to observe a Jury?

I get the impression that sitting in on the Jurying of local art fairs is possible.

It seems like a very good idea to sit in and take the temperature of the Jury. I mean, really, what better learning opportunity?

Are there shortcuts to sitting in or is it best to contact the promoter to arrange it?

Any help appreciated.

    If there are shows near you Jack I'd contact them directly to see if you can attend. Tell them you are new to the business and are curious about seeing how this works. Do this. Even with a small local show you will learn lots.

        Ann Arbor does not have an open jury.

          I just got off the phone with the secretary for the Director. They're checking to see if it's do-able. Maybe the policy isn't set in stone?

          They were very curious about why someone would want to do this. The reply of " to learn what it takes to increase my odds of being accepted" seemed satisfactory.

          I don't want to keep asking questions I should be able to find answers for myself. Where is this type of information stored or listed?

              Ann Arbor north/original  It's the closest to home with the heads-up display Larry mentioned, the rest appear to be two day commitments just to get there and attend

              I'll try some others like Great Lakes and see what transpires

                  I went to this show yesterday. Very poorly attended.

                  The artists were friendly and upbeat despite the beating they took by being at this show. They didn't have any complaints about the promoter or the advert/promotion of the show and "contented" themselves with the idea that the first nice weekend of the year isn't good for shows, especially indoor shows.

                  I talked with every photographer there and not one had heard, or would 'fess up to having heard, of AFI. We may have some new visitors soon :)
