I have a slight dilemma. There are two art shows that I would like to be in (one more than the other) that fall on the same weekend. I am not guaranteed to be accepted to either show, one show or both shows ... So, do others run into this issue and is it okay submit applications to multiple shows that fall on the same weekend? I understand that, if I am accepted into both shows, I will have to chose one over the other and lose the application fee of the one I decided not to go to. However, I want to make sure that this is something that ordinarily happens with art fair artists ... Or is this frowned upon? Assuming I get accepted to multiple shows, will I be be put in a "black list" by the show I decided to cancel on? Also, one of the two shows I am applying for requires the booth fee WITH the application. Thus, if i am accepted to both shows, I will be forced to go to the one which already has my booth fee. Does this tell you anything about that particular show? What are your thoughts? Thank you for your insights.

  • Make sure you read the fine line with your booth fee. Some will deposit your booth fee upon acceptance others when you accept (or their deadline for cancellation) Some others such as Howard Alan will keep your booth fee and give you a credit for another show.

We all are trying to fill our specific schedules so most artists will apply to multiple shows on a given weekend. I have only run into a couple of situations where I got into both shows I applied for...thus having to really sit down and decide what show would be best (based on travel exp., booth fee etc etc)
  • Every artist I know applies to all the shows they want to do (on the same weekend) hoping to get into one. If they get into more than one, they cancel the less desirable shows. Shows don't blacklist for cancellations though they might be pissed off if you don't cancel but don't show up either.
