We need some help in making a smart decision regarding which show to do..Guilford in Ct. or State College in Pa...both are four days...Guilford, don't think gets a big crowd, but perhaps a wealthier one- State College gets gobs of people but maybe we won't sell high end work there....what to do, what to do....HELP!

  • What is your medium? This is a craft show, with a small number of 2-D artists outside the main tent, if I am remembering correctly. My wife did Guilford 3 years ago,(ceramic tile and mosaic) and it was very disappointing. It was extremely hot, and the artists outnumbered the patrons through most of the weekend. This is a wealthy area, but don't count on them coming out, especially in the heat. That weekend is consistently the hottest of the year. This show used to have a great reputation. I don't think it is the same. Someone tell me I am wrong.
  • Hi Patti,

My first question is whether you've done either show in the past. I've done State College off and on for 28 years and have always considered it to be potentially one of the best shows in the country. Load in/out isn't a problem unless you're on the first block on campus. In fact, if you stay at the Days Inn on Pugh Street, and ask for a space on the first block of Allen Street, you can leave your van in the parking lot and it's a short dolly to your space. That's what I've always done.

I have no experience with Guilford because it's a crafts only show.

  • All my information is second hand, Patti...but I'm told that State College is a brutal load-in/out but that (because it's a university town) the eateries and drinkeries (is that a word??) are first rate and there's lots of lodging.

I had a customer recommend Guilford to me earlier this month (as I was swiping their credit card for $700).  So I think your assumption is spot on, LOL!
