Hi folks! I'm nowhere near the point where I'll be able to take my show on the road, but there is a local opportunity I'm considering: a fiction convention that will have room to display art behind 10-foot-wide tables that are dedicated to book sales.

I've been considering getting gridwall from a local retail supply store (to avoid paying duties on anything imported from the US) as I get ready to show at conventions (my art is somewhat sci-fi/fantasy oriented) and fairs (possibly). If I wanted to keep my options open for both, and help this organization out by lending my own panels, what height of gridwall panels would I want to get?

Or, to ask another way, what is the standard height and width of a gridwall display for art, in a 10x10' tent or indoor display?

  • Measure the height of your tables and look at the grid wall options in height, choosing the height that will give you the most hanging space or whatever hanging space you need.

Most people that get grid walls usually get either 6 or 7 foot tall grid walls. It depends on three things. The interior height of your canopy where the canopy sides attach, the size of the vehicle used to transport them, and weight. Grid walls are very heavy and can be difficult to manage. You will also need a hand truck or dolly that can move them from your vehicle to your booth location in the show. Also take into account that the grid walls need to connect at right angles to support each other so they don't fall over.

Always overlooked is a light weight but flexible solution for displaying hanging artwork on a table. I purchased one of these table top displays from Armstrong Display years ago and it's come in handy many times:

    • Thanks, Larry! I appreciate the sense-check: I've been leaning towards 7 foot; so the trick will be getting a 7' tent when it's time for that.

Unfortunately, we're not getting any tabletop room, as we only get the space behind the tables, but I'll definitely keep Armstrong in mind for future projects.
