  • Well, for starters, it's not in the Gold Coast anymore. It's in Grant Park. The audience is quite a bit different than Gold Coast, more touristy. Some friends did well, but it really depends on your location. I stopped doing the show when it moved into Grant Park. Far too many artists, way too confusing a layout, slow sales reported by many. Although a friend of ours (painter) did okay there the first year it moved.

Chicago is very expensive to do shows, logistically difficult if you have larger work and a trailer or cube truck. Parking is somewhat problematic in Grant Park, as it's all underground, and the clearance doesn't allow taller vehicles. I don't think you can get a Sprinter in there, either.

Anyway, good luck, have fun. Chicago is a great town.

    • Thanks!  It sounds like there are many mixed feelings about his show.  I'll have to find out from experience when I get there.  Have a lot of high hopes, but will have to reserve judgment until it goes down.  Again, if anyone can think of good advice, it is greatly appreciated.  I haven't done a lot shows so looking for do's and don'ts on this one!

      Thank you!
  • Chad:  There is a TON of information on this site about Gold Coast... just put "Gold Coast" in the search engine and you'll get pages and pages of discussions, reviews and blogs.  I did it last year and it SUCKED the massive one!!  Biggest rip-off and only show I've ever lost money at.  Others had more kind things to say.  Do a search and get ready for all the info you'll get and come to your own conclusions!  Good luck!
