Formal Introduction

Hello Everyone,

I'm new here, and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jim, and I am a fine art photographer from Cincinnati, Ohio. I'm a complete newbie to the Art Fair world, and am planning on jumping in this summer. At this time I have 3 shows here locally that I am planning on attending. Two of the shows are juried, and I have work submitted for approval. My work is unique enough that I feel it will do fairly well in the art fair arena. Up until this time I have been selling all of my work out of art galleries. I'm looking forward to the summer, and trying my hand in this arena. I am a little nervous, but heck - nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

If you are interested in seeing some of my work, you can drop by my Flickr page... I have lots of it available there.

Thanks for having me here!

Jim Kramer

  • Hi Jim!  Welcome and great work!  Joining a group on this site can be helpful.  Look for the photographer's group under the group tab.

  • Welcome to AFI Jim...beautiful work!

  • Hello Jim and welcome.  Your work is very fascinating.  I have never seen anything like it.  I see you have included photos of how you get your shots.  Aren't you afraid someone is going to start coping what you do?  If you want to show people how you get your created work put it in a photo book and let them buy the info from you.

Glad to have you here with us.

    • Hello Jacki. Nice to meet you. Thanks for the kind words regarding my work. I'm glad you find it unique. With regard to the setup shots, there are certain parts of my technique that I keep private, and they are the parts that distinguish my work from others out there. Although mine is the first you have encountered, there are others out there doing similar work. I did not pioneer this type of work, although there aren't a lot of others out there doing drop photography. I have thought about the book idea before, and maybe one day I will put something together. The main reason I post any setup shots at all is to validate that my work is indeed photography, and not just some kind of photoshop manipulation. People ask me that all the time. When I am at a gallery show people often walk up and say things like "Oh, that's all done with photoshop", or something similar. It's both a compliment, and bothersome at the same time.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to collecting some very useful info on getting into the art fair world.

      -Jim

  • Hi Jim and welcome aboard :)   This is the best place to get all the information you need before plunging in the deep end!   Use the Getting Started Guide on the top menu bar of the page to work out the basics of the site and then read, browse, read, search, read!   I found I couldn't get away when I started here - so much wonderful info!  See you around :)

    • thanks Annette.
