I am a stained glass artist looking to do some Florida Shows in March of 2012.

I am interested in any input or suggestions for what fine art/fine craft shows you know to be well attended and well run.

I am planning to make Tampa my "home base" for the month and head out for the weekends from there.

I am currently looking into Jupiter, Hyde Park, Venice and Coral Springs or Key Biscayne.

If you have anything to share with me about these shows or others you might consider to be worth my time please post here or contact me via email. fragments1@comcast.net.

Looking forward to hearing what your thoughts are.

Ruth

  • Okay... so I got into Cityplace in Palm Beach and Coral Springs and waitlisted for the others.  I am trying to make some decisions so I would love some feedback.  I have also gotten into the Sugarloaf show in Oaks, Pa the same weekend as Coral Springs.  Has anyone done Cityplace?  How was it?
    • My wife and I stayed in Cityplace last year in the condos above the shops for three months and we did the show. Let me say that Cityplace is a great place for an art show and there are no bad spots. That being said it was our lowest grossing show that we did in florida. If it is the weekend of the boat show again parking around the area is 10-25 for customers in random lots. They have 2 large parking garages but they were much lower so people from the boat show park at city place walk the half mile down to the marina and hang there until late at night. Being in Cityplace for three months we actually thought we had seen it busier during random weekdays then it was at the art show.  As a side note I have posted about the sugarloaf shows and the oaks show was our best show with them.  It easily beat out the City place shows but you have to consider being in sunny South Fl vs. Pa. Also Howard's shows are considerably less money to do.
  • I am also thinking about Florida in March and looking at Howard Alan's shows - Las Olas, Jupiter, Coral Springs, City Place (West Palm).  I do sterling silver/mixed metal jewelry and beadweaving.  Anyone have any thoughts?
    • To save you some money which I wish I knew. Most of their shows were closed to jewelry before their flyer even came out. I applied to 9 show in June and got into only 2. I got a call from them telling me most of the shows I applied for were already closed. I was not happy and asked them how that works when I applied to their shows 3 weeks before their flyer even came out, making sure I had plenty of time. I assumed they waited until the deadline to jury the shows. NO. Little did I know it is first come first jury. I still don't understand how they are able to advertise these shows for every category and still collect the money when there is no way anyone else applying for jewelry will get in. All that money paid for JURY fees when they already made up their minds??????? They did give me the option of a few shows that I did not apply for as the attendance is poor and the shows were not great. I said no thank you.

Call first and ask if the category is filled before you send your money in. Word of advise to save you $$$ (Coral Springs may still be open).

      Hope this helps

  • I also do the show circuit in Florida for the winter. I have done both the Gasparilla show and the Hyde Park shows. The first year I did well (2007) next year not so well. The Hyde Park show did not get a great turn out of people and the weather was great. I no longer do either show.

    Any feedback on Boulderbrook Productions?

  • I am hoping to come down in March and I am applying to Gasparilla, Vero Beach, and Winter Park.  I've done Hyde Park and did not do well but I am a totally different medium than you (photography).
