End of Two Booth Saga

Larry Berman finished working on my "museum booth" photo this weekend. This ends the saga of the "museum booth" for shows focusing on aesthetics and my "inventory booth" for shows focusing on artists that generate tax revenue for their communities and arts programs. Larry also recommended a new camera (was using 2006 expensive Nikon digital) which knocks down taxable net income further this year. The task  now is to put away inventory stacked in  the living room kitchen and dining room.  Next will be the fun stuff to make up 5 'WOW' PIECES (which probably won't sell) to jump through the next juror hoop.

  • I never imagined that comments would drag on this long. Shortly after I finished work on both booths, and I was ready to expand my horizons, orders for trick saddles started coming into the point that I am now booked until January, 2018. I have cut back to doing four summer shows which are reliably $3K-$5K shows historically. I am using the grey booth but loading it up with inventory. I think it reminds people of the old time saddle shops that not only covered the walls with gear, but hung everything imaginable from the ceiling too.

  • Just my opinion, but I would be ready to pay a higher price point if I saw the first booth at a show than the second booth at a show. But u know your market.
  • Richard, are you saying that you used to use 2 booths but now abandoned the practice and just use 1 booth?

    • I plan to use both booths. One for the shows that are looking from tax revenue from exhibitors and the other for the "snooty" shows that are looking for esoteric presentation.

    I had to laugh at this because I had a huge ring that turned out very well, that i overpriced (or so I thought) and used it for a centerpiece display and jury photos. Then at Madison Chautauqua I had a great show and a woman walked up and tried it on and handed me a credit card. I was surprized because I wasn't thrilled to make the sale. I had had the thing for so long it was like selling a puppy!

    BTW your booth looks GREAT! the hard work was worth it.

  • Your work is beautiful and looks great in both shots, but the first one is definitely "cleaner" - it reads easily (key for jurying), each item is readily identifiable, it's not too busy (the display does not compete with the merchandise), and the lighting is much better - even and soft, allowing details to come out more. Very interesting to see these two very different approaches for different circumstances - the second photo definitely makes me want to browse more, partly because the contents are not so clear. Nice work!

  • Hey Richard...Both photos look really nice and Larry, as always, did a first class job on his end.

    The second photo has a lot of color to it and stands out nicely. You have a lot of merchandice fit into your space but still a bit of room for a few customers.

    What type of new camera are you considering?

    • I agree that both photos set ups are nice looking, but it is the second one that would draw me in.  Far more exciting and more to look at.
