  • There seems to be a plethora of new canopys out there lately. I never heard of Eurmax, but I got one and I'm happy with it.

The unit you're looking at, like all the new brands, is vastly superior to the $200 EZ UP available at Sams or other big box stores.

You're starting out, so get what you're comfortable with. It looks to be an OK canopy and if you like our lifestyle of shows, (Having a fantastic show one weekend, and sitting in the rain with very few sales the next) you can upgrade later.

    • Chris,

Yes, I am just starting out, and I need a canopy that is manageable for one person. The Undercover is a Colorado company and has been around for 16 or so years. I love that it has vents in the top canopy. I also love the banana peel bag, for ease of getting the canopy in and out of the bag. The weight is also a plus, weighing 55 lbs.
I will be weighing the canopy down with 40lb weights per leg, attached to the top. I also plan on getting 3 sta-bars.

And I totally agree, being a newbie to the outdoor art fairs, I will just see how it goes, and I can always upgrade in the future.

Thanks for your words of wisdom.
  • Mary--

    Which one are you considering?

    • Hi David.

I am considering either the R-3 or the UC-2.

The Undercover has some neat features,
      - Vents in the roof.
      - Heat reflective coating inside the roof.
      - Awesome banana peel bag
      - It's a Colorado Company! (I live in CO.)
      - Easy to handle weight.

I would love to hear some feedback concerning it.
      • Hi Mary--
I looked at them and particularly liked that one of them was 13 lbs lighter than the ABC I bought. The roof vents and heat reflect ant shield sounded great too. But the catalog for the UnderCovers said water 'resistant', which made me turn to the Abc's. Absolutely don't want any chance of leakage, and everyone I talked to seemed to say that if it can leak, it will sooner instead of later.

        • David,

As you may remember, The ABC was on the top of my list. ...and it was the words "Water Proof" that caught my eye. I do not believe I saw another canopy stating that theirs was water proof. So, yes that is a big plus, along with the heat sealed seams. I believe the ABC is an awesome tent especially with 6 sides.

I know the heavier the weight of the canopy, the better it is. But if I am not able to carry it and set it up on my own, then it will be a frustrating process. So, the 55lbs is a plus for me. I plan to use weights and sta-bars.

As I gathered, any tent has potential of leaking if it is made of polyester, no matter the denier. I have heard that just like a camping tent, these canopies need to be sprayed with a water proofing spray periodically. I am not sure if it is the entire top, or just the seams that need spraying. ...will need to check into this. I create ceramic sculptures, and no I do not want leaking, but my ceramics will not be ruined if by chance they do get wet.

...just wish someone with experience with the UnderCover would comment. But just like you and the ABC Canopy, sometimes we just need to follow our intuition when it comes to these matters.

          All the best.
        • A general thing to know is the lighter the canopy, the likelihood of it flying increases. The $200 EZ UPs are genuinely lightweight.

My old KD was almost 75 pounds, and I never lost it in a wind in all the years I owned it. It was used in about 250 outdoor shows ranging from 2 days to 9 days.

          • Chris,
Thanks ever so kindly for your reply and advice.

I realize the heavier the tent the better. But, I will be setting the canopy up on my own, and carrying 55lbs vs 75lbs is more doable for me. I am planning on anchoring the tent with 40lb weights per leg, attached to the top. I am also looking to get 3 sta-bars.

I am brand new to the art fair scene. I have owned a gallery with my husband for 12 years, so I have experience with the Art world. I also have my work in a few galleries. I am looking to use my new canopy to do one day shows at the moment.

I like the Undercover Canooy for many reasons, listed above.

            Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I wish someone who has actually used an Undercover Canopy would check in with this discussion. I was reading a few discussions from way back, and one artist used an Undercover for five years before replacing it.

            Thanks again.
  • If the walls connect in the middle of the 10 foot front, they will always be in the way when open.

    • Please explain further. Many thanks.
