custom mat cutting in new england

There's a guy in New hampshire or Vermont who does custom amt cutting.  I found his name originally in a post here somewhere, but can't find it again.  Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Thanks.

  • Have you ever thought about buying your own equipment and hiring someone to cut your mats? I used to cut mats for a photographic artist. It was fun. Once you teach someone how to cut the mats, they would only need to come in as needed. I used to cut mats and frame. Would you happen to have a helper in your work already that you could teach? It is quite easy once you know how to cut them. It ends up being a lot cheaper to cut your own mats.

    • I usually cut my own, but sometimes outsource. What I really need is foam core in a rush. The company had pre-cut backing board at very reasonable prices.

      Thanks.

PS -- I like your idea of training someone, though.
    • Jacki doesn't give herself enough credit. She used to cut mats for Norm Darwish, Connie's husband. But cutting your own mats is a commitment in time and space you may not have. In another similar thread I recommended either Dixie Matting or Frame Destination, two sponsors of this web site. I know both owners personally and have used Dixie Matting myself for over ten years.

      • I've used Dixie Matting in the past and been pleased. However, I need some backing board in a rush and the company in New Hampshire provides pre-cut board at very reasonable prices. I live in Massachusetts so it's only one day shipping.

        Thanks.
