Cardboard CD mailers

What are the best kind? These are for sending out images on CDs to jury for art fairs.

I have been looking for economical mailers for this. I’m trying to keep the weight down too, the ones I see at the local office supplie stores are thick and heavy. I am not shipping the CDs inside a jewel case, but in paper sleeves inside the envelope. Thanks!

  • I've always used 6x9 envelopes with a single piece of mat board cut to 5x8. The CD itself is in a paper CD envelope. Postage cost 86 cents.

Never use a plastic CD case. They often break and scratch the CD, making it unreadable.

    • Thanks for your reply, Larry. You mean you don't get charged extra for non-machineable because it is rigid? The ready made cardboard mailers carry a surcharge because they are rigid. Wouldn't your envelope with cardboard be classed as rigid too?

I don't use plastic cases, just paper CD envelopes; for the same reason as you state.

      • I am being charged for rigid. Non rigid would be about 20 cents cheaper.

        • Thanks. I think I will get a typical, under 3 ounces one ready and take it to the PO tomorrow, see if what they say it should cost matches the chart I have. The ready made cardboard ones have been costing me $1.95 classed as a package (which I was told they were; which I think is overpriced) on their chart. I have a postal scale.
