  • It's a blind jury process and any identification will invalidate your application and be a serious distraction to the jurors.

    • Larry does that hold true when sending in actual photos because personally I worry if the show should misplaces them and as a photographer they basically get the real product . Thanks I never thought of that for actual photos of my work.

      • What's an actual photo? Do you mean print?

Never give a show a digital file of your work with an embedded copyright. If a show uses an image in print, they should include your copyright on the page, if not next to the image. Otherwise your image might end up in the orphan rights controversy. From time to time, I've contacted shows about not jeopardizing the artist's copyright when they print their program or posters promoting their show. Artist identification must be clear to anyone looking at the items with artist images.

        • Thanks Larry yes I meant print

          • If you're sending them a print to scan, get a good scanner and send a digital file as per their specifications. If asked by a show, I always send them a file that will print 8x10 (2400x3000 pixels) or at least 10 inches (3000 pixels) long dimension. That way they are more likely to use it larger because everyone else's images are only 6.4 inches, as in ZAPP images that artist upload. Again, never put a copyright in the image area when submitting to a show because it's limiting how it can be used, if it can be used at all.

  • I don't when applying to shows though application sites I trust the show directors and application sites in protecting my property ,but when a show requests sending in actual photos on paper I sign them.
