AOL e-mail hacked

Though they probably won't admit it, AOL e-mail was hacked in the past 24 hours. I've gotten in at least six emails from different people that have AOL accounts. If you get an e-mail from an AOL address that only has a link to a web site, do not open the link. In most cases, the web site that is linked is in Russia.

  • Larry, AOL email has not been hacked.  This is malware that upon opening it grabs your contact list and sends the email to everyone in your contact list.  Geri, the reason why you are getting it from your friends is that it keeps getting passed around by the same people who aren't smart enough to delete it before clicking on the link, which starts the process all over again.  Nobody should ever open an email that has the title re: in it unless you know that they are responding to a previous conversation and then the re: would be followed by the original title of your email.

  • I have been getting these emails from friends for months.  Most are from aol  and some from yahoo.

all that is in the subject line is re:  and  when you open it, there is a website as Larry mentioned that you can click on.  Most people can change their password and the problem is resolved.

David--I am still waiting for the sarcasm font but it has been a long time coming  (and sorely needed)

    • The "Sartalics" font can be downloaded at 1001 Free Fonts :-)

      • That is an amazing link, Dave. Thanks! Its use would probably help communication on this site a lot.

      • Well I'll be damned!!  Thanks Dave.  Now I need to start a publicity campaign so everyone recognizes it.

Why do I suspect that art show promoters have been using it for years when describing their shows and the criteria for those chosen?

  • I had the same thing with my Facebook account on Monday.  Many of my friends got a message from me for a link to a "work now" site.  I changed my FB password and some of my settings, hopeing that fixes the issue.
