Anyone out there who has had ACL surgery?

Has anyone out there had ACL replacement and meniscus repairs?  If so, based on your experience, what is a reasonable timeline to expect to be able to setup/tear down a Trimline and booth by myself?  My doctor is telling me don't even think about trying to lift that kind of weight and be on my feet for that long for at least 3 months.  Says I'll be on crutches for 4 weeks with the associated PT.  Surgery is the day after Labor Day and I had originally been planning on back to back shows from the end of September through the first of December.  But I think doctor's tend to be safe rather than sorry

I know that everyone heals at a different rate but I'm just looking for other peoples experiences so I can kind of gauge whether I should dial back a bit since I won't have help for most of the shows.  I'm still at the point where I can back out of some of the shows, if necessary...

Thanks for your input!

  • Good idea, Dave!  My shows will be in the Charlotte, SC, and northern & coastal GA areas.  Once I wrapped my head around actually asking people for help, it only took a couple of calls to arrange for a couple of friends to help me.   Who knew?

    • If you were coming up to do the Neptune Festival in VA Beach, or any shows here, I was going to volunteer.

      • Thanks, Dave!  No VA shows for me this year.  I'm thinking of venturing up there next year....

        • How did the surgery go?

          • healing nicely and PT is going well.  2 more weeks and I'll be able to get rid of the crutches and brace.  It's given me time to build up inventory.  It's amazing how crazy creative I've felt with pain meds!  Thanks for checking on me, Robert!

  • Where are your scheduled shows?  Maybe someone on AFI would help you if they weren't showing that weekend, and if they were in the area.

  • Thank you, Robert!  You're right. I should be able to hire someone to help me.  I like that idea.  Thanks!

  • I've had a torn meniscus in my right knee repaired. I stayed home from my day job (teacher) for a little over a week or two. It was a little dicey for another week or so after that, but my first show after the surgery was about a month later. The ACL may take longer, and the last thing you want to do is re-injure the ACL. Do yourself antacid and hire a young kid to do the heavy lifting. YMMV.
    • Don't you just love iPhones and autospell? That should be "do yourself a favor".
