I am interested in joining BOUNDLESS GALLERY online gallery to market some of my work. Does anyone have any experience with them? Opinions? Thoughts? FYI, their site is https://www.BoundlessGallery.com My one main concern is their lack of an adequate Free trial period (the market standard is 30 days -- They only offer a ridiculous 7 day trial) and the fact that they ONLY offer annual memberships (no monthly memberships that allow an artist to "test" the site). I think the lack of the aforementioned points really reflects poor judgement and no-confidence in their site. In other words, if the site works, then why would they not offer a pay-as-you-go, mohtly or longer trial? But, of course, this is why I am posting the question. For example, www.Yessy.com has an annual membership cost as well and I have found that to be a very good value. They offer three plans: (1) $72 annually and they take 13% from each sale; (2) $144 annual and they take 8%; (3) $244 annual and they take 3%. OK, I look forward to all comments and opinions (hopefully from first hand experience with Boundless Gallery).

  • Hello Diane,

I'll give the same reply I did in my other query about "ARTFUL HOME."

With 3rd party sites like 1KM, Artfire, Etsy, eBay, Zibbet, Zatista, Boundless Gallery (to name a few) I do NOT believe that it is the artist's responsibility to advertise their portfolio in the respective site. After all, why would an artist spend valuable time and money promoting a site where other artists/artwork can be browsed when they can just as easily (and more effectively) promote his/her OWNpersonal website?

If you don;t have your own website and you are limited in time then perhaps the 3rd party site is a good TEMPORARY option. There would be value in promoting the site and/or sending clients to your 3rd party portfolio.

However, your #1 goal should be to build your personal website ASAP. At the very least, go to GODADDY.com and reserve/buy your domain name ASAP (before someone else takes it ... You know, other people may share your name and or interest). It's only $10 per year ... so why not?

For me, the value in a 3rd party site is in its audience and market penetration ... I don't mind investing money in the site (fees & commissions) and letting it do its job. Some sites allow you to mention your personal website (which i take advantage as much as possible) and others don't but you can easily "sneak in" your web address with watermark copyrights in your pictures (i.e. "© www.Mysite.com") or wit your email address. Either way, these 3rd party sites are little virtual ADS that you hope will bring in business to your site.

Well, those are my thoughts ... I welcome yours / any ones.

I have not heard of this site. I have shops on artfire and 1000 markets although I have not sold anything. On the other hand I have not done any advertising. I do get hits on the sites but no sales.

  • Hi Kathryn,

Doing "well" on a site is realtive. But I can say that I have done "good enough" on Yessy and Etsy to keep using them. I would recommend Yessy for painters, sculpters. wall art and photographers -- not so much for crafts and jewelery. The site does bring in traffic (international) and it is your job to post art that will entice the visitors.

Etsy has done "good enough" as well. Their fees are so reasonable that even the occasional sale makes it worthwhile.
