First show ever
I'm not sure if this is the first art fair that I actually did, but it is the first one that I can actually remember. It was for a local municipality, and it was the celebration called Spring Fest. I wasn't yet making jewelry, but this art fair had a plethora of jewelers. I learned quickly to find out what proportion of vendors were showing the same art. I opted out of doing shows that had an overabundance of vendors in my category. It was a good lesson. The jewelers didn't do so well at that event.
What are the best things about art fairs
Hands down is meeting other artists and the art lovers who attend. I also love this type of "office". I live in an area where only being too hot is a concern. Bad weather usually isn't an issue, so it is wonderful to be outdoors,. No more being cooped up at a desk!
Best show ever and why
This was a gallery showing last December. I met a renowned artist who was very complimentary about my work. I didn't know who he was until later. He was just a very nice man that I had a wonderful conversation with who bought a couple of my jewelry pieces for his wife. It was a good thing that I was clueless at the time. I might have turned into a stuttering mess, and I've never had a stuttering problem.
Worst show ever and why
The second time I did the Spring Fest for that municipality. It was three or four years later. It hadn't rained at the beginning of May in probably 40 or 50 years. It just poured for two days. We were on grass, and the mud was terrible. It was also very cold. Another almost unheard of condition for springtime. We had to be there, but patrons basically stayed home.
