What are the best things about art fairs
I am a Cuban visual artist with a Master’s degree in Printmaking, working across painting, photography, and installation. I have participated in major biennials and significant group exhibitions throughout Latin America and the United States. At this stage, I am using art fairs as a strategic platform to increase my visibility in Florida, build a broader audience, and generate the financial support needed to further develop my independent artistic career.
Best show ever and why
The most significant exhibition experience I have had was a group show titled CUBA: Artists Experience Their Country, held at the Hunterdon Art Museum in New Jersey and curated by Kristen Accola. The exhibition brought together a rigorously selected group of leading Cuban visual artists from the past fifty years, and I had the opportunity to exhibit alongside some of the most important figures in my country’s contemporary art scene.
Worst show ever and why
In 2010, I organized an exhibition with a fellow artist in Bayamo, a city of major political significance for the Cuban dictatorship. The show, titled “Vaca no come vaca,” contained politically critical content and was not allowed to open to the public. The following day, the artworks were destroyed by cultural and political authorities. The exhibition was never officially realized, and no compensation was ever provided for the damages.
