What are the best things about art fairs

The best things about art fairs...hmm. Three things come to mind.

  1. One is that juried art fairs provide a curated venue for selling my work.
  2. The friends I have made with other art fair artists. We are a supportive "tribe"
  3. I like the way communities support their local events.

Best show ever and why

Saint Louis Art Fair

Sales are great.

The quality of the art is high.

The artists are taken care of with respect.

I have been on panel discussions that help answer questions for other artists.

I have had interviews which I later use for other promotions. These video interviews have added to my profile.

I have won an award, been a juror, and have learned how to be in the "Virtual" world.

The Saint Louis Art Fair allows me to put my best foot forward as an artist.

Worst show ever and why

I am not going to name the show, but I will relate an issue with my worst show ever.

The show was in a new location downtown. We all know there is a risk with an established show moving to a new location. Having been a former award winner, I decided to participate.

Few people came to the show. Jurors made decisions from the middle of the street. No jurors in the booth talking to artists.

It was windy. Mid-West windy.

The porta-potty was placed in an alley between downtown buildings. The porta-potty was placed by a pothole. I stepped out of the door, the wind blew the door out of my hand, and I stepped into the pot hole and fell flat on my back. Others saw it happen. No one from the show came to offer aid. The next day, an x-ray revealed I had broken my toe in the fall. Fortunetaly, my hair bun cushioned my head from concussion.

I fault the show for placing the porta-potty by a pothole. It was an accident waiting to happen. I fault the show for not having an emerency response person stopping by to check on me.

  • Hi Karen,
Welcome to the site - it is a great way to connect and network with artist throughout the country! - Were you sent to the site by the Dennis Belcher that I know? He is a wood turner that just moved to North Carolina from Peoria?
