Selling art to patrons who value fine art.
Best show ever and why
Iowa City, IA: Summer of the Arts Excited Patrons came to hunt fine art! They explored booth after booth and then returned to mine over and over until they determined to purchase their favorite. The energy of that show was exciting and those who managed that show did an outstanding job serving the artists. Both the patrons and the sells made this show my best ever.
Worst show ever and why
Dubuque Fine Arts Fest in Dubuque, IA Few people came to buy fine art, which is ironic since that is the name of the show. All fine art painters that I spoke with did poorly. I sold absolutely nothing which was a first. Lawn ornaments and jewelry won the day. It may be that the marketing was more focused on a "garage sale" mentality than on patrons of the arts! The economy also played a major part from my point of view. The organizers had an effective website and appeared to do adequate advertising, but the results were questionable.
