Parkside Art Show in Central Lake Michigan

What are the best things about art fairs

I enjoy meeting and talking to people who like art. My husband and I love the adventures that each show brings. We like to explore different areas of our state and this is the perfect way to do this.

Best show ever and why

My best show ever was this past summer at the Traverse City Art Center show on the NMC campus. It was a one day event that co-insided with the TC film festival. I had record sales, decent weather for most of the day, and several repeat customers from that event.

Worst show ever and why

I have learned over the past 3 years to stay away from "craft" shows as my work is fine art. I did a show that was staged in a horse barn last fall. I was right next to the pumpkin carver and across from the duck tape hats guy. Big mistake, but it was a local show and I was trying to be supportive of my community.

  • Amy, I think your work is amazing. What a great idea.

  • Davisburg is located between Flint and Detroit, near Clarkston.  This year I will be in the Flint Art Fair and the Plymouth Art fairs.

    Where do you live?

  • Congrats on being awarded the Blog Post of the Week Award for 5/28/12.
  • Thanks Amy, I understand, I am going on 53 and my working life  to support my family has been the priority. I don't have any pictures of my work to show anyone, only the soap I've made, I am taking a vacation soon to organize myself and get a start on something. I really appreciate your input, sometimes the time I have for what I really want to do sends me into the panic mode, because I'm 52. I will hang in there, day by day. moment by moment.
  • Happy birthday, Amy. I hope this is a great day for you with lots of friends and fun and this will be a banner year for you, one that sees dreams come true.

Thanks for being part of our community.
  • Hi Amy, Thanks for getting in touch, and ask away! I'll try my best to answer you correctly if it's not too technical. GoPayment Support is a great resource for the technical issues. Also, I really enjoyed seeing your work. Most of the time reverse glass paintings don't interest me, but yours are very sophisticated and well done. Look forward to hearing back from you. Dann
  • I started my photography business in 2008.  Shortly after starting my business I started shooting alphabet letters of architecture and other objects found in urban settings.  These letters can be used to spell words, or names to make contemporary art for you home.  This project took off, and became an overwhelming success.  I used the money from selling my alphabet letters to fund my photography business.  These letters are fantastic sellers and I’m thankfully too busy with my real passion to have time to sell them anymore.  So I’ve decided to sell the high resolution digital files for a fair price to the right person who is interested in making an abundance of extra income.  This idea will be unique to you, and if you're driven will make you lots of money.  The market is enormous!  If you’re interested and would like to discuss things further please contact me atshane@reedphoto.ca and please check out our alphabet photography atwww.reedphoto.ca click on “client” menu and enter the password “abc”.  We have b&w and color alphabets, and I’ve also custom created numerous word art pieces with quotes.  You’d receive everything with unlimited reproduction rights.  The letters can be put on anything you can think of or you can sell them just as letters to go in frames.  I always just sold them as letters for $5 per letter.  The profit margin is very high as it costs about 10-20 cents to print each letter and they sell for $5 each.  I look forward to hearing from you.
  • Amy, your work is wonderful. I'd love to see more of it.

The glass tree piece on my site is done with glass powders and little particles of glass (frit). I make the back plane of the scene in glass frit on to of a clear glass sheet, and fire it so it melts together. Then I build the next visual plane forward, fire that, etc. The tree piece I think is only three or four layers, but some of the bigger ones are five or six layers. I am in love with the way the light shines through; everything but the black trees is transparent color.

I'm glad to find another glass-girl here!

  • I haven't done a show in many years.  Life got in the way, but love to go to shows and learn about all kinds of art from others.  Hope you have a Happy New Year.
