Hello. I didn't get into the Coconut Grove show (darn), but I did get into St. Stephen's (also in Coconut Grove), both of which are held Feb 13-15. What are your thoughts on St. Stephen's? I will be at Beaux Arts at the Univ. of Miami in Coral Gables, FL on Jan 9 & 10. Your thoughts on that one would also be appreciated. I'm a representational painter & my price point is on the lower side for a painter. Thanks! Lisa

  • There is a search box at the top right of the page where you can find out about just about anything on this site.

Lisa, I haven't been to Florida for a few years, but I am glad to hear you are not making a special trip for St. Stephens. It is a good excuse to hang around in the Miami area for an extra week. There should be plenty of people here to answer your question. My suggestion is to go to the "search" box at the top of this page and type in "St. Stephens." You'll find some good links with pertinent information.

You may also query the members who posted that information also.

Be aware, loading in and out is a challenge!
  • Thanks, Nels, for your insights on things. I like hagglers, too, because they're buyers!

To find the search box, click on "discussions" above, and you'll see a search box near the top of the screen. The search engine is fussy about exact spelling.

  • Good luck with Beaux Arts. It was a good show at one time, maybe 15 years ago. It is marginal at best. They do not do a good job of advertising. That said, give it a try, especially if you are a new face there. I also saw your blog about Boca vs. Mt. Dora. Personally, since you are Miami-based, I would stick with the shows there like Boca, St. Stephans and the Arts. Be prepared for haggling. They don't want to pay list price--or sales tax. Lots of New Yorkers. It is just the way it is. When they say,"What's your best price?" reply back,"Are you paying cash? Green money always talks. Don't be flashing the credit card at me." They respect you better when you look them in the eye and reply. I love the hagglers, it always makes me feel extra good when I reel one of them in on my line. Boca is primarily a Jewish audience, know that going in. If you don't sell well to that crowd, Mt. Dora is better. They are more conservative, lots of midwesterners. Personally, I make more money in Mt. Dora than Boca. See what others say--Nels
