  • The folks who put on this show are an absolute delight. I really WISH there was better foot traffic. Unfortunately, it was not financially viable. People I spoke with said the show had been better, but even with great weather this year I guess people had other things to do.

The people who are involved are very helpful and good people... It was like going to Vegas... sure I lost money but I had a good time, lol.

  • I have attended this show for the last three years and I have always done well over booth.
  • I live just down the road from Wimberley.  Its a beautiful area 'blue hole' - a great cave.

The show has been put on for about 3 years.  It's been on Zapp for a couple  of those years.  Wimberley is a great  art town with an active art community and several galleries even though the population is maybe just a few thousand.  Sorry I don't know anyone who has participated.  Blue hole is about 5 miles outside of town on RR 12.

I've talked to a couple of artists who did the Spicewood show in the fall (also on  Zapp) and regretted it because there was no traffic.   There is also a new show in Buda on  Zapp in the Spring, they are trying to build a community but Buda is definitely not an art town.  Lots of antiques but very little art.

  • I too applied to this show, but had never heard of it.  I think this is the fifth year of the show, but this is the first year they are going for two days instead of one.  I really can't find any information online about the past shows anywhere, even on their website. Perhaps this is the first year they used Zapp?

What puzzled me, is that on the zapplication it mentioned that 15% of the artists will be "invited artists".  I read this after I had already applied, so I never called to see what they meant by that.

I am trying it because I am not too far from the show, and have free lodging if I want it.  I like Wimberley, I think it is a neat little town.  As far as Texas goes, it is a pretty area.  Lots of people go to Wimberley on the weekends, but whether or not they go to buy art, that's something I don't know.  I would think carefully, and probably give them a call to find out a little more about it if I were travelling very far.  The one thing I did notice, is that they are advertising all over the state.  If you go to the promotion page of their website, you will see that.

I was surprised last fall at how well I did at some smaller shows around Texas, actually more like really shocked. Since this is my second year to do this, I am still trying a lot of different shows to find my niche, so I am open to trying new shows.

    Good luck!

    • hey kimberly, I'm curious as to which smaller shows are working for you?  any springtime texas or nearby state shows that you could recommend?

      • I did a show in Austin called Cherrywood Art Festival, it is a show in November, but not one I would travel to if I lived in Florida.  I also do well at the Huffhines art trails, another smaller show, also in the fall.  I do well at Cottonwood, and highly recommend The Woodlands Waterway show, where  had my best show ever.  Bayou City has been a great show as well, although I have not done it for a few years.

I did not do well at the Blue Hole show.  I did it when the show moved location that first year, and the foot traffic was just not there. I barely covered expenses.  I have not tried it since.  I think that the promoters did what they could, it was just tough to get the crowds away from the downtown area.
