Since weekends are for work in our business, Saturdays and Sundays are not usually spent like the rest of the world. We go to work, so holidays are those rare days when we are on schedule with everyone else.

Many artists use these weeks to not only hang out and enjoy their families, friends and recreational opportunities, but as fallow time for making plans for going forward.

I am visiting my children and grandchildren in California until next week, but always take my electronics with me. My brain trust of sons and daughter-in-laws, most of us self-employed, spend time strategizing and planning for as well as the usual fun and games. Leaving Detroit last week I dropped my laptop on the concrete floor in the airport,

smashed the screen so now am occupationally disabled for the short term. But feeling crippled. Off to the beach with the rollerblades! How about you?

  • Finally completing the move into my new workshop – which includes some (much needed) new tools.  The new dust collector / duct work should help save the lungs…..

By the way - nice boxes Greg

  • Hibernation - but the Lego minifigures will take a much darker turn this January and February...

  • I'm putzing around on Facebook etc. before going downstairs to finish up some holsters. One shoulder holster for order, two belt holsters for same revolver for stock and one shoulder holster for stock that was left handed mistake cut for right hand order. Waiting for one saddle tree to come in before starting next round of three on order. I have three basket/geometric stamped belts to finish before that part of the plain and B/G belt inventory is ready for summer. Next are the floral carved belts. Lots more inventory work to get done while working on saddles. Restoration work will have to provide the cash flow until first show in May. First quarter is always a financial killer. Finally finished my electrical project too. I have to rebuild a downspout at church Friday so it doesn't dump water on the drive by front door where it freezes into ice. I repaired the support for a 350 pound bell at church (difficult project) only to find after oiling bell that it had a crack up the side and will ring no more -BUMMER. A smaller bell still works. Still need to do body rust work on my Suburban. I got a major article out on CD this week, but need to get some more done for cash flow. Little piles of money add up.
  • Creating work for February shows and applying for summer ones...and enjoying some time with friends and family.

  • That's why I have a SquareTrade warranty on my laptop and phone.  They cover accidental damage!  Overnighted me a phone when I dropped mine and made the screen look like your laptop.

As to what I'm doing this week - filling out some show applications and getting some new work ready for the 2014 shows.  Also hard at work on the 2014 Ocean View Art Show.

    • I didn't have a warranty, but am kicking myself, why was I so laden with bags and gifts that I didn't take better care of the most expensive thing in my entourage?

How many shows are you thinking of doing, Dave? Doing anything new at Ocean View?

      • The Ocean View Show may have a big official announcement coming soon.  I've been busy working on it.  The city of Norfolk is very happy with us and we are working with them to put something together.   As soon as it's official, applications and information will be coming out.

  • Hello Connie...

It is sad about your computer but it does give us a little bit of time to remember how we existed before computers an to remember the many other important people and events in out life.

I had to buy a new computer a few weeks back because the Mama board on my old one went kaput...Off to Office Depot I went to buy a new computer was able to get a really nice HP for a good price since it was on sale for $300 off of retail..  It took days (well, it took my brother days) to get all the stuff on the new computer that was important on the old one.

Anyway, sorry about getting sidetracked...this week I am spending time in my shop designing and creating so that I will be ready for shows that will start in March. I have 4 definite shows lined up and others waiting jury decisions.. I also want to build a new display for my work...so there is no procrastination time allowed.

    Happy New Year...!

    • Happy new year to you too, Greg. I know you got in some very good shows in 2013, hope that trend continues in the new year.
