Hi everyone!  My name is Asha, I have been wandering all over this forum for years now, never posted anything but I have really appreciated reading your discussions! I do believe I have become better because of you!  So here is my quandary.  I got accepted into the Vail Arts Festival (not Art on the Rockies) and from the zapp page it looks like an awesome show, 30 years running, "ABSOLUTELY NO REPRODUCTIONS," etc. Then I googled it, three pages and not a single reference to it (lots of pages on Art on the Rockies though).  Their website is down and has been down for several months now.  I emailed the show director and they assured me the site would be up and running in a month.  Which means they will have one month of an actual website up with which to promote the show. The booth fee is $480 with a $150 tax deposit...  So, having searched this site for Vail Arts Festival and having found almost nothing I am wondering is this show for real?  Has anyone done it?  Do you recommend it?  I have done shows where the show directors forgot to inform the populace that artists would be in town and I have no interest in repeating those experiences. Thanks for your help!

  • I applied to this one after a wildlife photographer told me about it. It sounded good on paper, but I was wait listed. I bailed because I had too much studio work to do and it was a first time show for me. Glad I didn't do it now. Reviews are important! It's off my list of potential shows.

  • Holly I am really sorry to hear that! I ended up skipping it last year and have been wondering if I made the right choice... If you have time you should review it. I know for myself I only go to shows that have mostly good reviews. I know it takes a long time to build up a following etc but I don't have the excess income or time to waste going to shows where the promoters forget to bring in buyers. Good luck at your next show!
    • you are so welcome you made the right choice to skip

  • I just did the Vail Art Show put on by Eagle Valley Events, and it is truly and event to skip!!! Eagle Valley Events who knows who they are they don't do much but collect your money and not organize anything!!!

I tried to contact the organizers many times it took several months to receive a response. I was in the Village of Lionshead in Vail which is a European style walking street. There was 0 organization and the 2 organizers that showed up at 9:00 to check people in were disorganized, rude and made the show an experience I wish never to repeat. The show had low attendance and not great buyers.

I had a 14 hour drive to the show over 1700 miles round trip and expenses were high tax is 8.4%.

  • We do quite a few Colorado shows and I am not sure which show this is? When is it? (sounds like June?) You might want to post your question in the SW artist group - there are alot of folks even more familiat with Colorado than I am...and some who live there. Good luck!

    • Thanks Pauline! It is the end of June show.  Honestly I think I am just going to skip it, I really don't feel like risking it.  I didn't realize that there was a SW artist group, I will join it immediately!
