Toledo Museum of Art - SEE IT!

TOLEDO MUSEUM WEBSITE

Since there's so much activity right now in Michigan and Ohio, I thought I should plug visiting Toledo Museum of Art since it's without a doubt one of the finest museums in the world. I was stunned at the quality of work housed in this institution and wish I lived closer so that I could see it more often.

So while all you art fair artists are traveling by Toledo, you might want to drop into this exquisite FREE museum. Parking is $5, but that's all you'll have to pay to see some of the finest art anywhere. And right now there's a special civil rights exhibition since July 2, 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the signing by President LBJ of the Civil Rights Act.

But don't miss the permanent collections. They are stunning. And the Museum allows visitors to take pictures in the galleries, so artists can acquire great research reference material. Thanks, Toledo Museum of Art. WOOHOO!

  • I do live near and have only been there a handful of times, Barrie, but you are right. The collections are wonderful and the glass is really great. There is a history of glass blowing in Toledo which has spawned the excellent collection they have. This is not Chihuly land, but an historical collection from early days to fine contemporary work. Work that will dazzle you.

I love the pre-Raphaelites (which I'd guess, from what I've seen of your work might be appealing to you also, Barrie), and they have a few of the best paintings from that period.

Anyone reading this, it is easy to access the Museum from I-80/90 and worth a trip. If you're cooling your heels for a few days between shows in this region, put it on your list to stop there.

(thanks for the tip, Barrie. I'm going to try to get to that exhibit)
