Taxes....

I just received the proposed Sales tax laws, rules and regs for my State. We will soon have to charge tax on custom orders and repair work. Jewelry and ART. And pay taxes when we rent tables or space from a venue, unless it is a government facility(Museum, school) or other Non-profit Organization-as long as the proceeds will only be used to benefit the school, or organization. So soon in Maine, all fairs, festivals, civic centers, etc. that allow you to book booth or table space will have to charge tax- even on the table rental. Don't know if any of you travel to Maine for the summer festivals, but thought I would put the word out there. Check the tax laws for the states you will be vending in. These changes will go into effect later this year, June or July 2010. I have attached the pdf- if any one wants to view it, see below At this time these are proposed changes- not in effect yet, but to be voted on. I was a little hasty in the reading, and missed that part! Sorry! Karole in Snowy Maine

  • Karole,
If you're a Mainer, make sure you vote in the referrendum.

But you're not alone in your frustration. I can assure you, millions of people nationwide are just as frustrated as you. And they're angry at both parties.
  • Not yet, but am beginning to have little faith- not so much on the good people in Maine, but in our representation. No new taxes , my left foot! I get very discouraged- and am so tired of the lies. I love this one, "We want to make Maine friendlier to business, especially small and micro-businesses, I won't increase taxes!" RIGHT! Are there any HONEST politicians out there- at all?
    Just one?
